So the next question is Does anyone in the class have them ?
If anyone does, my best advice for the OP ,is to contact them for their thoughts on the matter .

Obliged for (Some!) of your contributions. I guess I was looking for a little edge in what is a pursuit/handicap fleet. Think I will stick to my current set-up -- Thanks again!

JimC -- The spreader bend control would, in the case of a deck stepped mast be between the step &  hounds & I think that length is too short - especially as my mast is tapered above the hounds. Thanks for your contibution.

I don't think they're allowed.

Looking at pictures of Herons on their website I couldn't see any.

But the only people who can answer the question are other Heron sailors, if spreaders are allowed and show a benefit some of the more serious racers will have worked out the best settings.

To be fair to the OP, there is an awful lot of mast bend here…..and look what’s happening to the jib luff…
Not sure this is what Jack Holt had in mind at the design stage
