Are you allowed to have spreaders on a heron?.
The UK Heron rules are top secret and can only be seen by class members. The Australian association is more open to inspection, and their rules forbid them. |

I agree they will normally be used to control mast bend-so if that’s a problem you could give it a go. They also are good for setting up the mast bend. Lots of sails need prebend this can be easily done by spreaders.

Is there a problem to be solved? What spreaders will do is effectively make the mast stiffer between the hounds and gooseneck. If you have a problem with it overbending in that area consider spreaders. I'm not familiar with bermudan metal masts on Herons, but the rigs on most 11footers were over stiff anyway so spreaders would have nothing to offer.

Wondering if anyone has any advice on retro fitting of spreaders? I single handed race a Heron. It carries a tapered (above 3500mm) Superspars M1, the xtrees are at 3500mm and the mast is deck stepped. Therefore there is only 3500mm of the mast to support. Is it worth fitting spreaders? - and if so at what height & deflection? Appreciate any tech advice..
Thanks
