At the chance of baiting my brother i would say he still has issues tacking the 6.
They are not easy boats to sail.
Cheers,
Alex

Back to snow for a few minutes as we are forcast a lot of cold over the next few days ...

This is just awsome. I know I want a go!!

Looks incredible but there have been quite a few deaths from that in recent months.  You get your trajectory or angles wrong on that and slamming into those sharp rocks would hurt!

Re. the tacking a 600, you'd be far better off keeping the boat flat through the tack, and sitting on the wing rather than crouching over the gunwhale trying to hook on. Many of the top guys sit down on the wings of the 600 to hook on and its definately going to be quicker than what your doing now. I found that in the 600 tacking wire to wire while standing up was only really possible up to about F4, after that it was easier to swing in to the wing easing mainsheet and as you hit the wing use your momentum to lift you onto your feet, and the run to the far wing. Sit on the new windward wing hard to keep the boat flat, hook on and as you go out gradually bring on the sheet.
Just do what feels fast and easy to repeat.

Cheers, I'll give that a go next time.

I'm currently at the moment in discussion to the 600 coaches which i'm slowly perswading to come and give us a training day at alton. It's probably going to be Jamie Mawson (i believe its spelt like that) who'll be helpin us  I can't wait!

The only problem with sitting on the racks is it doesn't tend to work if you light.

my method of tacking the 600 is to lift myself up with my mainsheet hand (remembering to bring the mainsheet undr the trapeze elastic beforehand) then stand up slowly pushing the tiller away untill the boat is only just not coming on top of me. at this point i step into the boat, ditc n armful of mainsheet, push the tiller hard away, and run at the opposite trapeze handle. somehwere at this point i manage to get the tille into my new back hand, with the mainsheet. then i kneel/stand on the side deck, hook on and leap out, pulling the main in as i go.

this seems to work for me, but i haven't tried the sitting on the rack option. i will try this when i next get out in the boat (god knows when that will be, i need to sort out the main halyard cleat (cleet or cleat?) before that, it keeps jumping out the cleat and falling down the mast 6 inches or so everytime i pull on kicker or downhaul!).

600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.
