No space in Cowes for the team bases and way too narrow in the river. Any team bases would be in Portsmouth or Southampton/Hythe area if the sailing area is the Solent. Almost definitely the Solent due to the historical nature and origin of the race. As Ineos are already based there and have trained in Rita 1 there, it kinda makes sense. I expect you are right about the Solent, but having seen the Americas Cup circus in Plymouth in 2011 and the Olympics in Weymouth from the Northern it would be nice to have it in some kind of natural arena where you can see what is going on in real life.
How about the Thames at Ranelagh?

Saw the acws in Portsmouth from the water, with hundreds of other boats, and thousands watching from southsea seafront. Definitely worked as a venue.

Ineos won't leave their facilities in Portsmouth.  	They'l structure the cup around what works in the Solent. I honestly didn't think it was too bad when I watched the world series in 2016 at Portsmouth Edited by ClubRacer - 01 Feb 21 at 6:30pm

I saw both the Portsmouth event and the Cowes event. Both locations, as race areas for spectators, are perfectly fine, though Cowes is of course, logisitically a little more complicated to get to.  Edited by Chris_H - 01 Feb 21 at 6:33pm

I think there’s a long way to go before Ineos need to worry about the logistics of holding the Americas Cup!  Like how to get fake LandRovers from France to Chelsea, will Geraint Thomas ride the tour de France, is Lewis Hamilton going to settle for a one year deal, oh and how do we beat Emirates Team New Zealand!

Luna Rossa first - without the element of surprise.

Fair comment. When it comes to promoting the sport the press conferences have been diabolical. Devoid of personality and comradery. Terry H did try to inject a bit of humour at one point but it looked more like gallows humour, maybe an attempt to unfreeze the terrible atmosphere........The conference presenter (who is he?) has about as much charm as a *******. This kind of stuff is terribly important in promoting the sport. About a handful of the races have been very enjoyable though. Gotta take what excitement you can these days.
