Totally agree about the other place . But on the other hand compare how many people post on it to the amount of people that post here . Then tell me y&y are doing the right thing .

Prada left it late to bear away to give the impression of an infringement. Could they have taken a deliberately lower angle straight after their gybe with the intention of going for a port starboard decision? They appeared to be the slower boat downwind and a successful protest may have been their only chance of a win.

Would going deeper would have risked coming off the foils? But by the time they went for that starboard cross a penalty against the Brits was their only chance...
edit :- I've been reading the Match Racing appendix C and while rule 16.2 is deleted rule 16.1 "When a right-of-way boat changes course, she shall give the other boat room to keep clear." still applies. Doesn't that prevent a RoW boat from altering course to make it impossible for a give way boat to keep clear?

Brittania appears to turn sharper, almost dinghy like.
YouTube has hundreds of millions of members, Y&Y has 19,000ish, posters to membership, Y&Y has a better average and substantially more sense per post. |

Has anyone seen an umpire explanation/analysis of that last cross?

No. But I did hear reference to the Luna Rossa course change meaning that Rita had to be given time and room to keep clear. This may be what the decision hinged on. From the views I have seen - not the right angles really - Rita did appear to be clear ahead.

Funny, I came across and old dinghy mag the other day from 1980 and thought then what a shame there's no equivalent today. To be fair to Y&Y, it's kind of difficult for them to do the 'right' thing since the edifice that was once Y&Y is split between the print mag and this online bit and I doubt either of them have the resources necessary in order to do it. Although one of them does own the Dingy Mag title which they should have relaunched ages ago as an online mag in that style, using controbutors like dougaldog and a host of other talent that you can see on here from time to time. All regional forums that were once big have contracted to a few international types and they are often poluted with Yank Trolls and *Tools to the point most sensible folk tend to avoid them these days and use facebook, where the poster has an identity to be judged by. In the face of all that this forum is doing at least OK to still be going strong, given the limited base of its would be users compared to say cyclists. |

From what I've seen of the replay, there is 10 seconds between the initial bear away onboard Prada to Ineos crossing. Which should be ample of time, and means the bear away was legal.
Smart move by Jimmy to use all his speed to soak and get some really good VMG for a short period at the end there. Looks like it was timed well too. It just wasn't enough to get within a decent distance of Ben
