Exactly, and exactly why it'll go nowhere with the same old class & commercial vested interests doing the same old self destruction.

Exact equivalent of the old newspaper classifieds, isn't it?  But yes, I've found Marketplace terrible for no-shows - best kept for purely local stuff.

And yes, FB is handy for the stuff you mention. I'd have lost touch with lots of old colleagues without it - we have no need to communicate, but it's nice know how they're doing.

Why pray would they miss me when I've never even considered joining their sad and sorry gathering? The fact they don't care about folk like me is exactly why the system is melting down. Whereas the world populated by said folk is booming currently.

It had me driving up to the wilds of Essex with the cash to buy a bloody Contender only for a no show, waste of time and money. Facebook has lots of plus points for catch ups, banter, lost kit in watersports groups, keeping in touch with old friends and colleagues, but for buying and selling, five times more irritating than ebay with none of the security and don't even start me on the Chinese & US product con artists.

Clap well done Aeros then.  Esp if you consider any class racing at club level may not even hit those stats.

I think many are losing interest in Facebook for all the reasons TT lists. 

I hardly ever post but log on most days as it helps to maintain connections with distant friends. 

I have an Insta account but so few of my friends do it’s a bit pointless. 

Forums are better imho but the tumbleweed here would suggest that is a minority view.

One of my kids told me I have an Instagram account and hundreds of followers. I guess it must have been opened on my behalf by Facebook or something like that. Never even logged on and certainly no idea who the 100s or followers are. Just shows its all an echo chamber. I have bought some stuff from FB ads but normally from local people who I kind of know from other sailing friends, but would probably not drive across the country to see something!

Just been woken up with 14 emails saying somebody's posted here!  So I must have contributed previously?

Continuing off topic - I agree that forums are best in that you can segregate topics, search etc.  Biggest problem is they need someone to set it up, host & manage it.  

I only use FB for sailing related groups, & for that I think it's pretty good for immidiate discussions.  As said elsewhere, it's useless for searching & topics keep repeating.   I've only used the 'Bits for sale' group once - I posted a 'wanted' ad for something I knew nothing about & the responses & suggestions were brilliant.

On topic, Aeros seem to have won the battle at our club. Most of the top Laser sailors have migrated to something else, although not necessarily Aeros.  Indirectly it's probably helped classes like the Blaze - we've had a couple of ex Laser sailors get them as they no longer had any decent Laser competition but didn't want to fork out for an Aero.
