MSM news is at war with tech for ad revenues... watch The Morning Show, very insightful (and Aniston is still insanely hot)

If so HMRC would do their own assessment fo a fair cost, and bill for Corporation Tax based on the higher profit figure.

I still don’t understand why this process disappeared but I suspect it was an EU based levelling. Hopefully, post Brexit, we can start telling, Google, Apple, Dell  and M**rosoft, to name but 4 that purport to sell goods from Eire, that we are going back to the old rules. It’s not like a Mac or Dell ever goes anywhere near Dublin on its way from China to my desk.

Likewise the IP and licensing charges Amazon, Starbucks et al use to profit shift gets kicked out of the window. It’s an easy sum. They know the sales delivered into the UK as a proportion of worldwide sales. If the UK is 10% of sales, they get taxed on 10% of worldwide profit (probably plus a bit as we always get overcharged compared to the US)

The Oompa-lumpa President might not like it, but he could well out by then anyway.

We also used to have a lower Corporation Tax rate for smaller business (tax profit below £300k)

About time HMRC grew some balls, started picking on organisations its own size (no sweetheart deals like they did with Vodafone) and stopped the bullying

Hate to say it, as she irritates me, but Nicola "Independence, Independence" Sturgeon was actually right today in her "realism" speech about a very, very gradual and controlled return to some form of normality - but not the same normality.

be interesting to see the wee-Kranky's independent-Scottish-economy figures based on a negative oil price

Moving back to sailing, I would like to make a couple of comments.

The first is that it would be very easy to move the maximum racing wind limit downwards so that rescue services are required less often

Secondly, to educate sailors on how they can look after themselves if things go wrong. Nowadays, a sailors first reaction on something going wrong is to look around for the rescue boat.  A lot of the times that is not necessary.

To give some examples.  Many many years ago. I was at a 505 championship and our rudder blade broke.  No rescue boat could be seen, and we were about a mile and a half away from the shore.  By the time we got back to the shore we had become reasonably proficient in sailing without a rudder.  It is possible to get upwind in silly wind condition without much difficulty, by raising the centreboard if necessary.  If you want to go downwind there are two ways of doing this. One is to take the mainsail down, and the other is to completely lift the centreboard / daggerboard and just sit and wait and allow yourself to be blown far enough downwind until you can cope.  A spare length of rope and some spare split rings can deal with a lot of gear failure problems.

With regard to the championship situation I think that the driver here will be the availability of food and accommodation, rather than the actual racing organisation.

Sorry, wrong.

1) However we dress it up people rigging boats on the hard constitutes a gathering. 15 boats = 30 people.

2) Will the club be able to open for briefing and prizegiving?

3) Will the local pubs/restaurants be open?

4) Will the local tourist industry be taking bookings?

5) Will the harbour authority allow the event?

6) Is it right to bring people from all over the country to a small seaside town?

7) Bearing in mind the above, will the fleet support the event?

I am an advocate of getting some sort of sailing back ASAP. I do believe that even under current restrictions limited free sailing is possible at some locations within the rules and should not necessarily be discouraged (location based etc as done to death already - sorry to some of you, we will have to agree to disagree,)

An open meeting or championship is a different thing entirely. I cannot see a way of running a meaningful championship event that people will want to go this summer knowing what we know currently. For the events not yet cancelled time is running out :(

Government employer guidelines state if you can't maintain social distance, you have to turn your heads away from each other, doesn't make sense, I can understand this for essential work, not sure about non essential work.

I am hoping they can drop the essential travel only. This will allow most to get back sailing at their local venue. You can probably run the odd evening serieswith changing in the car park and no access to the club. Evwnts do look scuppered for months though.

This may explain why we are seeing all these cyclists racing around,  anyone found something similar from RYA ?

Mine has been like that for a while.
E.g Pressing Enter for a New Line works in the editor but when you then Post, it is not formatted as such.
