Why is this supposed to be a one way street?  What is the alternative?  Is the UK expected to gain the benefit of money flowing from the rest of the world for decades, and then to expect the rest of the world to cough up when the cash flows the other way for a little while?
Switzerland has extremely strong lockdown measures in place. It also houses the HQs for about half the Olympic and major sports including swimming, cycling, gymnastics, golf, football, rowing and basketball amongst others.  Why on earth should the UK benefit from the Swiss taxpayer's support for the HQs of those sports, and then not expect to kick in a vastly smaller sum for supporting the HQ of sailing?






It's not the place for people with a convict heritage to question what goes on in the UK.. sorry leave your name in the wastebasket by the door on the way out...

I don't think there is another country in the world doing as much for its people than UK? Not seen anyone complaining about World sailing bailout either?
However I am not very knowledge about much, someone should be along soon that knows

You really don’t know much about the safety net in France Germany Spain or the Low Countries etc do you ? Think you will find out ours is pretty poor in comparison.

Surely world sailing are a company like any other? The money is for employees just like I should be getting from my employer via the government.

Other countries have similar schemes, some of whom are doing more. Wish ours could help people both employed and self employed.

The Job Retention Scheme portal goes live imminently - in the interim it's been the employer's cash flow proping up the position.  Personally I think it's a good scheme, and they've rolled it out as efficiently as we can realistically expect - couple this with personal and corp tax deferments, it's probably as good as we can expect without breaching EU state aid rules.
