I guess some more actual 'dinghy develompent' in this part of the forum would be good, so... Interesting take on the RS400 market niche: https://orlando.craigslist.org/boa/d/melbourne-17-sailboat-for-sale/7056480568.html Craigslist |

It is a thing to behold, the clunky American style mast float is a tad out of touch. As it says in SA not sure how the asymmetric works

I certainly can't see any signs of one in the pics, nor any way of rigging one.

It would be feasible to tack a kite of sorts down to the stem of that boat, it may simply not have been rigged when the photos were taken. They have a flavour of first sail to me.
I greatly fear that after all that work the owner may not have found the boat very satisfactory. Of course boat building and boat sailing are quite separate activities, and its by no means unknown for people to build boats and then find they don't like sailing very much. I think, though that in that case, sad as it might be, the owner would be best advised to build another hull and reuse the same rig. The hull might be quite interesting as a runabout with a light outboard on the back. [A bit of research later] Well, my assumption it was an amateur designed boat was quite false. It seems it was designed by a Florida based boat builder and designer Paul Lindenberg, who seems to be perfectly competent in the small to medium keelboat arena. I don't know what he was thinking with that one though. There were similar concepts in Cherubs and Moths back in the 70s, but I fear the boat will be a one trick pony at best.
