Bad case of irony, I reckon... and it's true that the RS700 Nationals this year in Torbay were better attended than they have been in the past. As for not selling abroad, there are a few RS700s in France. The French guys can't believe how cheap second-boats are in the UK and they are building the fleet over there. 700 or MPS... If one day I manage to handle either of those, I'd be very proud of myself!! |

As you know, the article was written very tomgue-in-cheek. The event was in Northampton, it was the second attempt (it was cancelled the first time round because of lack of wind) and it was blowing a gale! No wonder hardly anyone turned up The Europeans this year are in Garda and there should be a pretty good turnout, from the UK and other countries. The Musto Skiff is a great boat and I'd love to have a go one day but, to start with a high performance asymmetric single-hander, the RS700 seems to be a slightly cheaper option that can deliver just as much fun! |

They sent the 300s and 600s in just so three boats could have a sail???

Mate, I'm just quoting the figures... According to the numbers the 700 has had more boats in its Champs every year which looks pretty black and white to me. I agree that the Musto has more boats overseas, but we all know that so far RS haven't been able to sell boats outside the UK: its not necessarilly a criticism of the boat. I haven't got a horse in this race since you wouldn't catch me in either. So who's fudging and interpreting? And come to think of it I've never regarded number of boats at the Champs as that important, but presumably you do judging by the sore place I seem to have pressed... Edited by JimC |

There's a fair few people at my club gone for the 700 on a fairly practical basis- it's a lot cheaper than a Musto...

I guess, but a lot of people I know have started on the RS700 and have soon realised they should have just gone straight to the musto. But maybe they had their eyes set on a musto in the first place.

As the RS700 gets better champs attendances in the UK than the Musto skiff (see the YY table) its a pretty good bet that statement isn't true for everyone... |

I'd go for a 600 and then after a while if that isn't exciting/tippy enough (unlikely!!) then go for a musto or fit foils to the 600. Adam P.S. Splosh........Pot.............Kettle.............!! |

Moths are great fun, and the 600ff is growing pretty quickly and is pretty popular, not sailed one though. I have sailed a normal 600, pretty hard to sail despite only having one sail, the hull is rounded and is therefore extremely tippy. the 700 is a bit of a heavy boat, I didn't like it much, but it is easier than a musto but if you don't mind gettign wet the first few times, then I would just get a musto. Steep learning curve but I am sure it would pay off I wouldn't buy the RS700, as couple months later you will just be wanting a musto. I'm trying to get a Musto at the moment too, if not might go for a moth or a 600ff. |
