Always amuses me when that's quoted when I consider how Bader came to be the legless flying ace.

Usually it is fools who think they are wise men who quote this.

I sometimes wonder if that was what Bader was driving at ...

Very happy with the very safe Waddington flat hook I already have. And I rather think that if I get tangled and die, it is my own responsibility, not that of the stuffed blazers at the RYA. Thanks for the advice people but I happen to think you're wrong.

As for the iso committee, doubtless the major harness manufacturers are well represented upon it and will be very happy to sell us all new ones, bless them.

Hopefully the rule will be recinded.. I'm inclined to ignore it anyway, but if crewing for someone else it would be unkind to get them disqualified.

Seems an overreaction to one very specific hazard while ignoring plenty of other equally dangerous entanglement hazards completely.

Also the legless flying ace who survived the war whilst reforming fighter plane tactics and management (well, his book says he did).  A lot of people who lived by the rules achieved a lot less and lost a lot more than their legs!

So, what is the latest on this? My trusty old banks harness of 15 years has just given up the ghost and I need a new one ASAP...

I tried to have a look around a while back to find the new rule, with no joy. I thought I saw an ISO standard but can't find it again now.
Is there anything currently on the market which complies anyway?

Well whatever you do, don't buy that new Zhilk thing, it burst undone last week and has introduced me to back pain for the first time as a sailing consequence.

Saw this in draft rules. Note references Submission 164-18 Proposal 1 from the RYA but the RYA submission didn't reference the ISO standard. But, rule 43.1c is also added to the list of rules which can be amended by class rules under the revised draft (as per RYA proposal 2).
