Sorry, I'll get my coat.

Is there enough air to blow the sails at that height?!

Yes, Chew had 100ish boats on a couple of Wednesday evenings last year. We’ve had 98 entries in total so far this Weds evening series, but not all on the same week.

a hundred boat event might eat up some members with volunteering, wouldnt use that as a good measure.

As someone who goes to many of these events I can assure you that the volunteers are many and brilliant but they are not in the main keen racers based on the chats I have had with them. They like helping out at the big events and the energy of it all.

Was it you H2 at POSH? That was a well run event fair play to Paignton for running that one.
Good turnout this year.

Nick sails at Burghfield now - some Sundays and most Wednesdays.

Raced on silvaplana once, near St Moritz. 1,800m. Was high enough to feel the altitude after a hoist.

Where on earth do you sail?

A reservoir near the university town of Armidale, New South Wales, although we also have a yacht down the coast. It's spectacularly fluky at times but the altitude means that the gradient breezes can be reasonably fresh.

We've only been here 18 months and it's very different from Sydney's sailing scene, but the club has one member who has won nationals in several classes and another who has won worlds in two classes and an Olympic medal in a third, so the standard of sailing at the front isn't too bad.

Silvaplana sounds like fun. I once sailed (or drifted) on a windsurfer around the tiny glacier-fed lakes at the top of Gavia Pass in the Alps, 2600m ASL. I'd ridden the bike up there and the idea of falling in and then riding back down the 19km 8% descent in wet cycling knicks was terrifying!   :-)
