Even if politics should generally be kept out of the boat park, there is an argument for discussing this particular issue, though: it will affect all those sailors who travel in big boats and venture outsides the confines of this isle. Thus it's not something we should just blithely ignore.

It will affect more than just those.
Some of our Topper youths are heading to Medemblik in June for the Worlds on the basis that it's a cheap event, just hop on the ferry in Hull and a bit of a drive the other end. 70 Euros to camp onsite. Could they see blockages at the ports? Will 70 Euros work out more in real terms than it is now if the pound tanks? Will they need visas? Worse case for me and I would think many others, is if costs of living escalate dramatically due to a no-deal Brexit, expensive hobbies like sailing will be the first thing to go... |

I see too many parallels between our sailing club and Brexit. All talk, no decisions and no action, many of the committee just want to "manage the decline" i.e. wrap it up, get out and get the money for their other interests whilst some of us try hard to make a go of it and remain to fight for it.

Loads of paralells with our club where remain won due to a biased vote and concerted disinformation by a local nimby group opposed to a development which would have given us a brand new club Worthing style fifteen percent more boat parking, a nearby campsite and a concrete purpose built slipway over the shingle.
As it is we remain in our wooden shack and they're cobbling on an extension whilst building a rack for SUPs or kayaks that has cost us two boat spaces but clubs are clubs you can take a horse to water but.... |
