That's a heavy vignette! And my broadband connect doesn't like 60fps! Then youtube makes you drop to 480p if you can only stream 30fps.

Lovely stable footage from the rib though. I take it you're on a gimbal?

They need some elastic up to the boom across the back. That extension trailing in the water is making me twitch.

Their article on the boat refurb was great. It's looking super smart now. I know they upped boom strength for increased kicker loads and square heads, but did they continue with the old design mast?

this was all shot and edited inside iphone, imovie vignettes are quite heavy, i use a a smooth q gimbal.

Wanted to record at highest frame rate so i could change speeds with out judder in the edit, downside to that is as you point out user broadband speeds, may still produce a another version at a lower rate and link it in the video so people can choose.

They're still playing around with it all, the elastic currently runs to the bars so the elastic stops at the hull, sure things will change by the next sail. They also had their rs800 extensions on and not their new ones which i believe will be a little shorter too which should help.

unsure about the mast, think its all off to the dinghy show and they'll be there, great guys to chat too about sailing, sure they wont mind me saying that they're boat geeks in the best possible sense.

We were lucky enough to do the work on this boat, so I know that the mast is newer than the boat. That said it’s a CST14 spec but very stiff (just before High Mod). My guess is around 2008 build

CST 14 was standard on these boats, and was stiff for its time so is fine for modern square tops, plus you can add material if you like.
More recent masts do a similar thing lust with lower weight ad diameter, much like is the case in N12 / Moth / Merlin / Phant etc.
Not much new in masts for last 10y tho.

Well done the lads! And nice vids too, like longer shots maybe it shows my age. :-)

I prefer that filter.

Will I-Movie not allow you to export 30fps @1080p?

To be honest, the problem is mainly with YouTubes default quality setting when it processes uploads for higher frame rates. Meaning viewers can only watch in HD at that higher frame rate. Most peoples broadband copes with streaming 1080p at 30fps, but upping that to 60fps means people need double the broadband speed. So the viewers are left with this huge quality jump of either watching in 480p/30fps or 1080p 60fps!

I do to re the filter, ive used that one before but i do like ot experiment and always happy to take peoples opinions with things, helps make the next one better after all.

imovie offers:

360p
540p
720p @60fps
1080p @60fps
4K

based on the current camera settings on the phone, which is set to 4K.

you're right with the jump in resolutions on YT, im being offered a 720 60fps version too.

think i'll continue with the high res high fps as it does allow for smooth slow down for play back for coaching purposes, but will dual upload with a low res version to make mobile / low speed playback achievable.
