Is the Finn fleet starting to go into meltdown since the Olympic decision?

Cam Tweedle's boat is up for sail on the Dinghies & Dinghy Bits FB page and Ben Cornish's bot maybe to follow?

You have to feel for the guys.

The Finn is almost a unique case, most classes go into decline when they get into the Olympics. Consensus seems to be that the Finn will do just fine without the five ring circus.

The serious contenders can be expected to move on to another Olympic boat but they only represent a minute percentage of the fleet in any Olympic boat.

On the whole the to guys don't turn up to the UK events (u23 squad excepted) as they have bigger fish to fry. The UK events are still well supported and the masters circuits get bigger and bigger. Now those guys have no chance of getting to the Olympics. Not sure that the Olympics will really affect things that much
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Exactly - and whilst I feel for those lads, they have at least had an amazing experience and trained hard with the best support any young person could dream of. I wish them well for their medium term futures, on and off the water, safe in the knowledge the Finn will still be the premium choice class for them if they want to pursue sailing in the masters category when they hit their forties and fifties.

Everything written here is bang on the money IMHO, and the U23 boys have had an amazing experience over the last few years that’ll stand them in good stead for whatever Sailing comes next for them.
The Finn Class, both in the UK and abroad will continue to flourish, the only issue being how to attract the younger generation outside of Olympic ambitions. Cameron is naturally devastated by what has happened, but is working on a plan that’ll see him continue towards his Olympic dream, but unfortunately these routes aren’t open to all the young Finn lads, as for most it’s a physical impossibility to get down to weight for other classes.

That said, who amongst us would like to predict what comes next, after the this report has been published this morning?

Oh dear!!!!
