That looked like it could have been expensive. Dagger boards and case to repair?
Much better wind than we had at Lee on Solent its so shifty in a NE like the weekend.

Luckily we were just entering a tack and slowing down as we hit. It also meant our weight was off the wire and most the energy was lost as we were flung forward. 

The crew sustained some damage to his thumb which ended the sail, but we were getting pretty knackered by then anyway. 

There is a chunk out the back of the foil, but the case looks okay. This same chunk has broken out a few times, and seems to act a sacrificial part in each of our episodes with the bottom, breaking off before more expensive damage is made to the hull.  

There are little rubber bumpers front and back of the case to absorb and spread some of the energy which help. But despite that there have been two 800s who have put boards through the back of casing this past year, so we're very lucky!

A grey November day in Chichester Harbour. Constant drizzle, but fortunately more breeze than the forecast of 10 knots, which made the sail a lot more fun. Full tide in the harbour too, so plenty of room. By the time we came in the tide was really ripping out though.

We were trialling new trapeze lines with greater range.  They can now be be lowered even further when it's windy. This brings the handles closer in reach, especially downwind. However, getting in and out is a bit more physical, but after a days sailing we are starting to get a feel for it. 

Unfortunately our kicker broke, snapping a shackle at the mast base about 20 minutes in. We limped back to the beach and managed to steal a replacement off the RS200 to get us back out on the water. We don't seem to have much luck with breakages recently!

You seem to have good wind down south, we have had a poor wind year.

The kicker shackles to the mast step plate, which is abut 2-3mm thick. The shackle pin sheared off leaving the threaded end still screwed in to the shackle.  The broken pin end flew off, and is now in the harbour.  

I think over time pin must have worn a grove in it from the metal plate and just snapped there. We had a look at the plate itself and that seems fine. Tried to tie it up with some dynema on the water but the sharp edges cut through it in seconds. 

The wind from May-July wasn't great, but the hot weather produced some decent sea breezes at Hayling, but we didn't have anything over 10 knots at any opens. But since August it's been pretty great. Forecast for big winds this weekend, hopefully it will moderate.

I found out you can sync GPS data to footage using Garmin's Virb Edit free software without having to have a Garmin Virb camera... so here's last Sunday's sail with some metrics overlaid. I think it's quite cool.  

I did a breakdown of a few a manoeuvres plus some other 'interesting' parts of what was quite a breezy sail. 

I'm quite happy with how the data came out. I know from cycling that using GPS for speed can lead to speeds jumping about a bit. But with this units GONLASS addition it seems pretty good for the purposes here. I was also surprised at how steady the bearings for heading are. Allowing for tide it should give a pretty good idea of shifts and mode changes (coupled with speed). 

I'm hoping in the future with the audio from a head camera, plus a second camera on the boom, plus an inserted overlay chart with the track on top it should give a pretty good insight to review races. Shifts and gusts, listening back to tactical discussions, seeing where we were on the course etc.

Looks good, would it be possible to put a live wind direction arrow on ?
Can't help thinking a self centreing rudder would help in some of the rushed manouvers.

There's some wind data I could get from camber met, and insert in to the GPX file... I think I just need to name the fields correctly in the file and edit software should recognise it (I've seen a few youtube video of yachts displaying this from Garmin). 

The thing is, that's true wind speed and direction on top of a mast, at 5 minute intervals, so I'm not sure how relevant it will be to me second by second speed and heading. The yachts with show this have on board sensors which we don't have. 

The last couple of sails we've taken out some elastic to put around the tiller, Moth style. But it's been too windy to risk trialling it. When we get 10 knots I want to give it a go.
