yet Laser is still very successful - with agents across the UK and a direct sales model too.... rumours around here (nr Banbury) were that another shift had to be put to cope with upward demand.

iGRF,
I think it was a combination of above, not my area of expertise so just relating what I have heard, training moved to Edgebaston and windsurfers went with it I believe, though we have started on demand courses. |

Dinghy/windsurf racing is basically an athletic pursuit and hiking/pumping harder will make you faster around the race course. You do still need to point it in the right direction though.

Clearly we both have very different definitions of 'success' can't say I've seen a lot from laser since I last witnessed them piling high and chinning out boats cheap at Southampton and as to knowing other than on the 2nd hand market where to get one from, personally I haven't a clue, not that I'm looking. As against RS which has gone on from strength to strength and remains the only really 'successful' marketeer in dinghies everything else is a shambles. Edited by iGRF - 12 Nov 18 at 2:12pm |

RS have some hot and some not classes though, y’all got very excited about your 100s and Vereos but where are they now. 300, 600 and 700 are on tick over but Fevas and Teras are shipping like hot cakes and so seems are Aeros. They have brought out perhaps 20 classes, would be good to see a list ... they are good at getting new stuff launched. But not all are long term hits.

I’d define success within context... overall falling market, yet the boat sales are still significantly higher than the next nearest competitor.
Now I will admit there’s some strong structural support - e.g. youth sailing, global Olympic programmes, holiday companies, ubiquitous competition via a lot of club racing, even schools around us have a fleet of Lasers for the Wilbur’s and Ariadne’s of the Cotswold set to punt about never to set foot in a dinghy again.... but these are all indicators of relative success; besides baby fingers wouldn’t fight in Connecticut court rooms for something that wasn’t successful now would he...? |

RS have, if I counted correctly, 19 different current classes on their website. I recall the RS300 and RS600 and well. The 2000 was introduced by Laser bit I think all the others are RS designed but I'd be interested in a list too including any other boats they have introduced or acquired.
