Formula Sam ... no chance, what a miserable way to get on the water. I’d take my floaty blow up iSUP with a 5m unbattened alloy rig out over one of those barn bloody doors

I bought one back in the day, and mine was only 85cm wide. It was brilliant in a stupidly narrow set of conditions, flat water and 9-12 knots (or thereabouts) I took it out in Holyhead bay and went from cruising to what felt like riding a bucking bronco in about 5 metres as I passed out of the shelter of the bay into 12" chop. If you want to race windsurfers in all conditions Raceboard is the way to go and had I not changed my sailing habits I would still be racing them.

Suspect the numbers watching trackers for the Volvo, Vendee, Figaro etc dwarf WS's 'Sailing World Cup'My guess - the offshore event will happen, but only for 2024 as a sop to the host nation. What'll make it really interesting is if the French get beaten at what they probably consider their own game.

Exactly

The Olympics 'offshore' event wont be able to compete financially

Are there issues for some nations/religions sending an unmarried couple out to sea together ?. In this day and age I'd be surprised if it wasn't an issue for some ?

Most of those same nations/religions would have a problem with an unmarried couple sharing the same boat inshore, or with women partaking in competitive sport at all. Compared to the current mixed cat event it is just a matter of degree.

By the time competitors have been chosen by ability, funding availability, weight, age, gender, experience and personal and national beliefs and restrictions there are only three people left. Just give them the medals so the rest of us can go sailing.

Presumably you could have two males, one who has the anatomy of a male, the other with similar attributes, but identifies as a female.  I find that I am increasingly out of touch with the world.

I am very pleased to be out of touch.

Cycling recently had the first women's champion who identifies as a trans women but was born biologically male (she's also a campaigner for trans rights).

It raises interesting questions, you need to be below testosterone levels for 12 months before competition. But you have you're whole life before that to build muscles with as much testosterone as you can produce. In some way it is like drug cheats who get banned then come back and win clean... how much advantage is in built from the days they were training and living on PEDs is hard to tell.  Plus, testosterone alone is used as the deliminator, but there are many more factors which would predispose males to higher levels of athleticism than testosterone levels alone.
