Looking forward to sack, three legged and egg and spoon races, with no losers to keep the snowflakes happy ...

I think we should be careful WS are probably reading sailing forums looking for ideas, two boats, two helms but only one crew, that should cover three legged event.

So less and less dinghies in the games as keelboats and kites take medals away

Well TBF the discipline is 'sailing' rather than 'dinghy sailing' and keelboats have taken a big hit in the last few Olympics with the loss of the Star and Soling. Kites are not replacing a dinghy class either but the windsurfing entry.

A keelboat with a kite would be a big improvement on the Star.

There’s still 2 windsurfing events. Kites have taken one of the 470 medals.

Bringing kites in in the place of the 470 appears to be ridicilous given the tiny, tiny number of kiteracers. There were just 11 women in the Kitefoil worlds, with a high rate of non-finishers, and about 6 at the Euros if I recall correctly.

In contrast, there were over 200 470 sailors at the worlds. Now the 200 sailors will have to compete for the same number of medals as the 11 kiters. And since we've known for years that World Sailing wanted kiting in the Games, it's not that the tiny numbers in kitefoiling are due to the fact that it's not Olympic - it's just by far the smallest part of our entire sport.

Kitefoiling is as much a part of Olympic sailing as Unicycle High Jumping (which got more women to its world titles) is a part of Olympic cycling.

Olympic sailing is in the worst condition ever.

The kite event is a joke. It’s a sport that does not even exist.

Keelboat event over days ... just what the YouTube generation want.

The Youtube generation seems to love watching day after day of  vids of young couples cruising under sail. Ok, it's not the same as racing, but where's the evidence that the offshore won't generate views? Lots of young people seem to do the Virtual Volvo.

The Youtube generation doesn't seem to always have an attention span issue. There's an interesting conflict between the fact that people blame youngsters for having short attention spans, and also blame them for spending hours on end playing games. Around the same time the America's Cup was trying to get young fans with 20 minute races, one the top-rated games in what I'm told is the world's richest computer game comp, which has something like $38 mill of prizes effectively donated by fans buying merchandise, ran for about 100 minutes. Other pro games have run up to 200 minutes. So millions of the Youtube generation love watching games that go for longer than a football match.

Yep, kite racing is a joke because the fleet is tiny. But how can we say that we can't have kiting because so few people do it, and then also say we can't have yacht racing when so many people do it?
