The Olympics lost all credibility the day synchronised swimming was defined 'Olympic' since then certainly in the sporting walks of life I've been involved in, it is never taken really seriously by competitors at the very top of their game. Windsurfing, Snowboard, I dunno Boxing, Golf, Cycling are they still Olympic even? (Not that I was ever into Golf, but i trained in boxing gyms once upon a time and have messed about the periphery of cycling and other than maybe BMX which had a moment or two, having the Olympics as a goal never really featured. The only reason Sailing is into it is for the Gravy Trainers, I read that corruption blog only recently which didn't surprise me, it was always thus, but this World Sailing bunch seem to have taken it to new levels, then again haven't MPs with their expenses, it's just a screwed up and bent out of shape world without honour or ethics so why are we even surprised.

If the Olympics are to be considered any sort of worthwhile pinnacle for sailing in the longer term should it not reflect sailing as more widely practiced by the hundreds of thousands or millions who actually make up the sport ??  .... maybe 'nice' to be involved but should it even be there ??

Many sports do not revere the Olympics to the same extent and yet still get by very well indeed - even if several have some sort of peripheral direct involvement in the 5-ringed circus.

Increasingly sailing looks like a round peg being rammed into the square hole presented to it.  The sports disproportionate focus on just one pinnacle competition, partly out of control of the sport itself, is the problem and the challenge.  Fiddling about with classes, racing formats, the implicit fear of being 'dropped' etc etc are just the symptoms.

More than that... it could be easily claimed that in the UK the RYA's youth sausage machine who's focus is the Olympics, is what is damaging the sport, and is the root cause of the drop in participation.

More on the anti-trust thing... seems like it's blowing up in WS face. Seemed the challenge has come from Luca Devoti.

The question is, if the DZero got selected, would Devoti then be prepared to open up the manufacture to anybody else?

Told you!!  Wink

Of course he would. Imagine a royalty on a boat that is as popular as the laser compared to building the D-Zero. No offence to the D-Zero, but literally money for nothing now that the work has happened is the dream!

Well played Luca... No where is that missing Finn he used for Sydney that was never measured or seen after the games....!!

'course what's so ironic is that Signor Devoti is also seeking to preserve his monopoly...

But the designers royalty should be going to Mr Holman unless something monopoly like is going on...

Legend has it that after the games in Sydney, Luca's boat was packed up and shipped away as soon as he got back to shore. Then while being transported there was an accident, where the boat was destroyed and then it was never seen again...!
