Indeed not many harnesses can be unlaced enough to swap the spreader bar - I've a Gill one with lots of straps that adjusts for different people and different sailing clothes; I bought it almost specifically because the spreader bar un-laced - with the consequent disadvantage of lots of straps. No wooden decks for me either (except on mates' ospreys), but the thin epoxy and foam underside of my V3000 took a few puncture wounds from learning single hand trapezing, over-confidence in strong winds and a conventional hook before I got shot of it!

Well it's some years since I switched to a harness with a spreader bar, at the time I was impressed with the improved comfort. So I'd take some convincing to go back, now I'm looking at the 'GrandMaster' age bracket. When you are young with good core muscle strength, you can cope with awkward stuff with less risk of discomfort or even back injury. But I'm not so old as to be completely past worrying about the differences between male and female physiology. Unisex design is OK for hats and baggy overalls.

And that matters because? Surely ladies being discerning is a glowing recommendation. Not putting me off and I would imagine our money works just well as that coming from the young and fit.
I think one benefit of getting older is an increasing ability to do what suits us regardless of the perceptions of others. One way for us older types to stay "fit and strong" is to use the most comfortable gear. |

Shock Sailing are in Portland, so vaguely possible to drop in. Their list of people using this product does seem to be female though! They are probably more used to dealing with strong fit people with physio's on tap than older club sailors.

RS400.
I've tried it over both, not ideal, takes quite a lot of careful smoothing and I only use thin thermals, no big old wooly bears. The good news is Shock Sailing now make an adjustable skiff nappy for this very purpose. I'm tempted................. |

Do you think a 'no adjustment' harness will cope with a wetsuit in summer and a drysuit in winter?

OK, I'm going to look at it with a pal of mine, with a bit of clever thinking, something might suit both our needs, dinghy and kitesurfer, we'd probably need sizes, back in the day we used to sell 6", 10" & 12" spreader bars to accommodate different harness sizes and peoples hips and ahem stomach sizes.
But back then we were selling 5000 harnesses a year, buggering about for twenty pcs isn't exactly commercial sense, but beggars can't be choosers, needs must when the devil drives etc etc and my current hook punctured the deck of my brand new seven grand boat and that can't happen again. |

A gentleman in Kent had a batch of 20 flat plate hooks made up a couple of years ago. I did get one, although given it a go have not adopted it for regular use, mostly down to sorting a neat harness for it to go onto. Currently with skiff style, no adjustment, small plate hook, gives maximum comfort and minimal snag opportunities for me.

So called 'Skiff Harness' look as if they may have plenty of adjustment but all seem to use a small square plate rather than a spreader bar type hook, I would think the latter would be more comfortable (having used both types during my windsurfing career).
