Trapeze Harness, keyball???

   I'll ask the guy this week if he knows what's going on, he seems very knowledgable about what's what in dinghydom. I definitely want one.

	If the work as well as suggested maybe there's a market for a small production run? I'd consider one of the price was not too silly.

	I think it's a flat spreader bar with like a triangle hole cut out projected a bit forward with a bit pointing down to accept a normal style tapeze, there's a guy in our club has one I've been trying to find a source for them after I punctured my deck scrambling to get back over the side. 	The full allen system is expensive, especially if you sail more than one boat. I've only seen it (on James Jarvey's "every option you could ever want" Javelin "Viper") looks good for double handing. For single handing .. erm you won't manage to hook on from out on the wire as you can with the C2 "grab and go" system combined with a standard hook. Much better is the Waddington Flat Plate Hook and a standard boat setup. the "hook" can't snag on the boat, it won't damage the boat if you fall flat on it (or have to crawl out along the deck to sort a kite tangle). All the advantages of the ball system without the need to change any hardware on the boat. And it works with Grab and Go too. I understand the inventor and manufacture John Waddington died a few years back and I don't know if anyone has the design details or design rights. But I'm keeping mine till the day I have to give up trapezing. It's a strange thing that it wasn't taken up by a harness manufacturer. Of course Allen want to sell you the boat hardware in addition to only the hook! So no wonder they went with the ball and socket.

	I fancied it but it seemed a tad overpriced at the time, although to their credit they came on here to explain that the price i thought was for one ball was actually for two, but it's a big step to switch, you can't exactly revert back to use a traditional system, but I'm still considering it. My harness is a bit big, the hook is one of those QR things that keeps coming undone when I don't need it to. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a dinghy shop where I could go, try it on see how it feels, clip in clipout a couple of times ... Edited by iGRF - 31 Aug 18 at 6:59pm

	Thanks, I need a new harness anyway, the current one is 'well worn'. Being averse to the cold, I'd like something that adjusts enough to cope with wetsuit or drysuit.

	Not tried it, but would like to. Initial thought is not only is it a smaller area to aim for, but it would make hooking in hands free almost impossible. The position of where the elastic and trap line attack means it wouldn't fall down in to place for easy hooking on very well. But that could be easily fixed. You wouldn't need a new harness, but you would have to take the complete system with you to tie onto another boat if they had hoops. I've always preferred nappy harness as tight as I can get on over a wetsuit with just shoulder adjustment. My harness is very old now, I think if I replaced I'd go with the shock sailing one, which is similar, but has battens in for back support. 	Anyone tried the keyball system? Thoughts? It looks like a smaller target to connect wihout looking? Is it possible to buy a harness which can swap from hook to socket just by undoing straps and changing the whole plate, or maybe a few screws? Or do I need two harnesses if I want to dabble in two boats? Any general opinions about what to look for would also be wlecome, I last bought a harness about 20 years ago....
