Yet another example of the Olympic Tail wagging the grassroots market dog.

IIRC, it was because they didn't want to butcher the RS800 market. Crew weight for the 900 was assumed at 120ish kgs and they didn't want to dilute the pool of sailors that would sail RS800's. Although a shame as it looked like a beautiful boat, I think it was probably a good decision as one bigger class with a wide weight range would be more successful long term.

Skiff sailing is always going to be somewhat niche due to the available places to sail and crew skills needed. The reason the 800 still gets decent fleets is because they maximise the potential pool of sailors with a really good weight equalisation.

The 900 is no doubt a better boat, but the 800 is better solution to enable fleet racing in the UK. I think they made the right choice... but I would still love to have a go on a 900!

I often wonder what happened to that gorgeous Aura hull after the show and trials.

Plenty of interest, boats selling pretty quickly when the come up s/h and new boats going out the door pretty regularly. Plus there is the olympic bid by Devoti (a double edged sword but a lot of exposure).

Whole fleet of d-zeros at my club.  And the Rebel was parked next to my Javelin for a few months. No x1s or x0s tho and never seen an sk2 outside the dinghy show.

The x1 was a lovely large boat but because of that was just so so so expensive. Hard to get traction in a market with plenty of other two crew boats that are so much cheaper and had established fleets. That's why the aero has done well, as it's not a huge investment to buy into.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Lovely boat, but sadly that’s not my experience.

There’s a second hand one up for £8k excluding road base!
