I have recently bought a Solo and have not had a hiking boat for some time. I am looking for recommendations for hiking shorts. I would probably looking for something that would go over a drysuit and a wetsuit if this exists. Cheers in advance.

The Magic Marine Freedom Pants are designed for what you are asking. I had a pair a few years ago and only retired them when I grew out of them. They are also good for protecting your drysuit/wetsuit from wear and tear from the deck https://www.force4.co.uk/magic-marine-freedom-pant.html?sqr=freedom&#.Wh0kUVVl-M8

I've just gone through the same conundrum as I've finally purchased a drysuit, I ended up going for the rooster race armour shorts and pads. Black friday deal and I got to choose the pad sizes that fitted me. The bonus being the pads will fit into my other wetsuit bits and the shorts and pads on their own be a nice super warm summer option (fingers crossed for the super warm summer).

Better buy a boat which doesn't require you needing them, like a Solution or D Zero, I bought a set of these sado masochistic bondage items once, even traded up to that zhik brand thinking they might be good, Wrong.. better a boat with curves, the Blaze I was using at the time required something to make the scaffold tubes barely tolerable, but since the Laser EPS and the Solution it's just not an issue and I don't get to have to look like some lederhosen bedecked fugitive from the third reich in the changing rooms, the object of immense ridicule from my wind and kitesurfing chums.

I've found the 'power pads' that velcro or slide on to your legs under wetsuits and drysuits just move around too much. So my ultimate recommendation would be to get some standard 3/4 length hikers then layer with long john, thermal rash, hot top, spray / dry top. I've found that to be far warmer, and far more flexible than getting a dry suit /steamer. Plus, most of it doubles as summer kit, so you save money.
If it's very cold I'd just wear a steamer under my hikers. Edited by mozzy - 28 Nov 17 at 11:14pm |
