I'm afraid it's no as different as you think, unless you head South. The yearly average wind speed at Auckland Airport is 10knts, at Southampton Airport it is 8knts. Right now its 5knts in Auckland and 9knts at Southampton.
But a 10kt wind has 50% more force in in that an 8kt one.  That would mean the British sail should be 50% bigger than the Kiwi one.  Wink

We've not seen the sail over here, but the NZ Association are working with Norths in developing this sail, so I would think that there are some big brains on it. The NZ Farr 3.7 Assoc Secretary has worked on America's Cup programmes for instance.

We've updated the Uk Farr 3.7 Website in time for the RYA Dinghy Show... it's got a fresh new look and a load more social functionality.

Stand no: c40

saw it at the show and thought it a neat, uncomplicated little boat. Ticks a lot of my boxes. Easy to pull around on a beach as well, us old un's have to think of our backs. I would want  a toestrap for those marginal trap, short tacks though.

The Lady on the wire had a smile on her face.

Ta Sam.

looking at the class website it says top speed 20kts......is that a little optimistic?

It's probably been discussed, not wanting to search 101 pages though.

Transient, when you've built it can I please have a sail?
There's no moulds then?

In an ideal world I would love to build one and sail it, nothing gives me greater pleasure than making stuff. (well I say "nothing", there are one or two things)......time constraints unfortunately. I also hope for a few more two hander years.

Butlers are making a composite one from moulds I believe.

The bloke at the stand said there's one at Shoreham with an obliging owner.

If I was in the market for a trap singlehander (and had the money) the Farr would be at the top of my list but I'm now, finally, developing some common sense and trying to sail 'sensible' boats (probably not quite there yet as I have a Spice but have recently bought a Blaze which is definitely a step in the right direction). I may well end up back in an Enterprise in a couple of years (and the Blaze will take over from the Spice as the 'silly boat').

I think you can buy an FRP composite 3.7 (and possibly a full FRP one) in the UK but a new boat, whatever the class, is not a cheap option.
