Then you are going to be disappointed. There will be no H2 at the Dinghy Show this year. Instead, we are focussing on providing two demo boats for use at any club which can muster a few interested people over a weekend. Simon Hipkin and I will be at the Show on Saturday, so if you, or anyone else, wants to have a chat about the H2 please phone me on 07906 396403 on the day. |

As I said earlier my dad and I sailed OKs at Elton back then. We were very impressed with the Harrier. It makes me smile that HS was declaring 'ageing bones' at 40

Dunno that the Harrier rig was really very much too small, but unsophisticated is on the kind side. I had one for a while, and with lowers, spreaders and full length battens the rig was transformed, even with the untapered spar.

Interesting stuff, thank you Keith!
The H2 stand will be a must visit place next weekend to see how the finished article really looks. |

The HARRIER was a boat of its time (1972). It was commissioned by Harold Smith (Lawrie's father), who was a keen OK Dinghy sailor, but he had just reached the ripe old age of 40 and was looking for something which would better suit his ageing bones. He originally wanted to call the design the FORTY PLUS, to emphasize the concept. The hull shape and ergonomics of the Harrier were Merlin Rocket influenced; it was built in solid GRP. So it was heavy, and the rig was unsophisticated and too small. But many people liked it, and still do (ask Michael McNamara, who sails his Harrier every week). The HADRON H2 was designed during 2015 as a carbon composite development of my 2011 plywood multi-chine design, the HADRON (now renamed the HADRON H1). The Merlin Rocket influence is very much still there, but now we have a super-lightweight hull and a fantastic rig, designed by Jim Hunt. A boat for the over forties? Yes, that parameter went into the mix too. Edited by Keith_Callaghan - 21 Feb 17 at 9:12am |

All the Harriers I've seen have been old bangers, and all fit the cheap boat thing that was being derided on this thread. Yes, they were new once, and so was the Spice.
When the original Hadron was discussed on here, there was much looking back at the Harrier. To be fair to Keith, I have no idea how much it was on his mind when drawing the Hadron. |

There was a Harrier at my old Club........................, don't know if you'd call it a banger though.
