agreed on all those points- I'm surprised the Aero even got mentioned in this thread. Other than a shared moment in history when they were launched, I can't really see they have that much in common with the Hadron.
I could see why someone looking for a handicap racer would pick an H2 over a new Phantom- and as you say, that's price comparative. I'd also say that those on the heavier end of the Solo range could do a lot worse than look at an H2, especially if the Solo circuit isn't going to be on their agenda. If we're looking for a head-to-head, then the H2 vs the new Ovi OK presents some genuine headaches for someone looking at buying a boat outside the RS/Laser/Solo 'mainstream' right now..... both are looking good, and arguably have very similar appeal.

You could level the same criticism against the Aero. It's nearly 50% dearer than a Laser and offers about 10% of the class racing. The Aero is a lot more similar to the Laser than it is to the Hadron, which is more of a 'sit in' hull than a shallow thing like a Laser etc. So the Hadron is more comparable to the Phantom, Solo, (Finn at a push?) In those terms, the price does not seem excessive. In terms of what you get from the boat, I'd be asking 'What's it going to be like to race against the other boats in my club?' I'd not want one to race against RS100's but I suspect there are a lot of classes it could give be a good race against on the water. Whether it scores higher or lower on that front compared to the Aero, will depend on the mix of classes at your club, your size, age, sailing style, fitness.etc. Plus the nature of the wind and water at your club. And which people will you be pitting yourself against at your club? Sometimes that's important. |

I haven't said anything argumentative, so agreed 'non-argument'. I've simply highlighted that the Hadron would appeal for completely different reasons to an Aero for someone looking...
People on a little break from boat ownership whilst sorting out some bigger decisions have no credibility hey? As opposed to what, 'paid trolls' who can't let a positive comment on the Aero go unchecked? Edited by turnturtle - 20 Feb 17 at 11:51am |

Says someone who has class hopped more times than I have had hot dinners whilst extolling the virtues of each class each time.... Sorry TT non-argument from you here. Were you currently sailing then it might be a little more credible.

my mistake, I should have said at "nearly" twice the price for significantly less than half the amount of class racing on offer...

No, I think it's you missing the point. This thread is about the Hadron. Clue is in the title. It's not about old banger boats, or how much cheaper canoeing is. It's about a new boat. In the Dinghy Development forum. |

I think we're missing the point here though, in many classes it's certainly possible to enter a national championship and get a decent (top 10) finish in an old £1500 boat and it's certainly possible to find accommodation for significantly less than £1500. Sure it ain't gonna happen in a Merlin but you pays your money....... And if (like me) you're sailing a £1500 boat you probably aren't at the level where you'd win the Nats even in a brand spanking new boat.

Sort of, but round the other way. Chance of us choosing to go to any of these locations for more than a long weekend is remote, so it's a championship with family holiday as a sideline. And regardless of whether the trouble n strife comes along, the accommodation cost is what it is.
