You'd be surprised how powered up the 8.8 sqm rig is. If you are 55kg or maybe a little less in the UK, you'd feel that way to. When my son was 45kg and sailing Oppies / Mirror he sailed my Farr a few times and this would have been a good addition if he'd gone further with it. If you are suggesting the NZ has lots more wind. I'm afraid it's no as different as you think, unless you head South. The yearly average wind speed at Auckland Airport is 10knts, at Southampton Airport it is 8knts. Right now its 5knts in Auckland and 9knts at Southampton.

It looks to me like he's going for hight rather than speed in the first video. In the Spice I use leech tension to control the power when we are powered up and twin wiring (on the few occasions when I get to sail with a sufficiently confident crew that is). The boom is centred and the leech tension is controlled with the mainsheet. With no other Spices to sail against it's hard to tell if it's fast or not but it's the best I can do. The Blaze is much happier with the boom over the quarter (based on how everybody else sails them and a couple of hours in light airs last Sunday).
