No one would deny all the comments and anyone can have a laugh at a club in a laser as you can have Ford Anglia racing.....

Well, in truth it is clearly visible to the naked eye, but at 3.7mtrs long in anything less than a hurricane I can't see it getting the better of a streaker up wind., No racing dinghy should be shorter than 390 and even that is slow.

An awful lot of my sailing seems to be either light airs where long waterline = low drag or beating into chop which is not kind to short boats. When you are sailing against the tide/current a lot, there is a basic need for the boat to be reasonably fast.

fair point, I do appreciate water-line length, but having grown up around National 12s I guess 'short boats' will always have an appeal to me.... to the point where I have been seriously tempted to buy a 12 again, they're great fun boats for messing around on- even singlehanded or taking the kids out for a fair ground ride sail in lightish winds.... the total antithesis to laser class racing and could have been had for the same money I just spent on Formula kit.
