Standard advice time ... contact the classes you might see yourself in and get a 'go' in a sorted example of each first. Costs not a lot and YOU can then end up with what suits you. Any specific advice here can be ... lets say a tad 'biased'
.

Couple of reasonably priced Blazes on the Dinghy Bits group on FB. Both look pretty sorted and Nick Ripleys will have been well looked after.

I'm all for getting a Blaze of course ... when you are sure it is the right one for you. Unless really sure I'd still advise anyone to try first !
BTW and however there are a number of good ones coming on the market.... Hartley have a backlog of around 20+ deposits paid up against new ones that will lead to more good used ones coming on the market as the Autumn progresses. It is excellent for the class of course and will make it a lot easier for newbie's looking to join the fleet - one of the limiting factors has been a lack of available used boats..... Good time to buy maybe. Edited by Cirrus - 23 Aug 16 at 1:51pm |

What is the actual all up sailing weight of a Blaze? Great looking boat too BTW, another one I've fancied for a while but I get the impression they are a handful in a reasonable blow for lightweights? Also the quoted hull weight is only 13 kg less than my Spice (though the unarig will save a few kgs over my 3 sail rig as will the carbon stick if I could afford one).

The official Blaze min weight is 72kg - This includes centreboard, wing system, all lines and corrector weights (where required) etc but this excludes rudder assembly and rig. Lose all the 'bits & pieces' and a bare hull ready for fitout was approx 51-53kg. Could we have made them lighter ? Sure - but there are always implications.
All up sailing weight ? Not routinely measured but it can't be much more than 80/82kg... and these are REAL weights btw. When the boat was built by Cirrus we weighted a range of other classes at one stage to really see what was what - many with claimed lower weights ... well you have to don't you and so could a few on this forum if they really wanted to know ... That definitely makes it a contender (small 'c'
). I don't suppose you ever weighed a Spice?

No opportunity - but guess it cannot possibly lighter than a Buzz ... (And btw no we are not about to actually publish the weights spreadsheet !) |

How does the actual weight of a modern Blaze compare with say a 10 yr old one?
I see RS have changed the published weight figures for the 200. It used to be the figure without fittings, now with. Good job I say.
