I'll be there.
Forecast looking grim for an L-plated 600-er, so looks like the Lightning for me. I'm just hoping to get round this year after 2 fairly unsuccessful (but dramatic) failures recently

My first time at the Birkett this weekend. Not sure I have fully recovered from last weekends D-Zero nationals but we shall see.

OOF!
 .... going to take a while to recover from that! Saturday - Best sailing day I've ever had. Despite the boat & I being separated by somewhere in the region of half a mile of the lake districts finest water!  Sunday - Flapping around in the front of an RS400 covering for a crew too traumatised from the day before. An awesome weekend!!

It was a great event, shame I broke myself Saturday and couldn't sail Sunday, I was on for a good result.

Talk on the Saturday evening mentioned a safety boat recording one gust of 53 knots..... does any one from UYC have more information on this?

I was told it was a mast head reading from one of the bigger boats that was out. Maybe one of the SB20's or the cruisers?

I heard it was 64 knots! We chickened out of Saturday at the last minute then spent an hour or two up to our waists helping people launch and then helping those coming back early. Seeing the broken masts, ripped sails and other damage and the battered crews we felt it was the right decision. Also worth it just to be able to watch the leaders flying downwind past the club - 49er was so far out the water it appeared to be foiling as we could see quite a lot of daggerboard and the 800 was just a mist of spray! Sunday's sail was awesome, with a goose-winged run on one tack all the way from the island to the club - several miles! Edited by patj - 06 Jul 16 at 11:03am |
