I have a distinct memory of one of the weirder weymouth speed trials entries doing something like that...

"...It could also be an effective way of restricting how far people could sit out which might have advantages for keeping things sane."
You could just ban toestraps and design it without a gunwale/centreboard capping or anything else you might hook your toes under. It would become all about balance and poise :) |

Restricting hiking with a back rest makes this a boat with a distinct advantage for heavier sailors, well in windy conditions anyway.
I would place batteries in keel, (for heated seats, etc).

What rule would cover having assistance, (someone hanging off back of seat).
Jim, I vaguely recall a thread on cvrda about a boat with a Jib that had a seat on end, this could swivel from side to side, someone was trying to restore it, from what I remember.

You could call it the Percher. I would add one in the centre for downwind, none of the kneeling to hurt the knees.

As heavier sailors tend to be taller, arguably the advantage is reduced for some at least. It would certainly change the tall versus short trade off with 6'8 beanpoles not having their usual advantage.
