Add to that the diversity of the stuff they're listening to (what is it when a band achieves world domination with a banjo?) and it's all completely wrong - one of the pleasures of growing old is supposed to be whining about the music of kids these days, but how can we do that when so many of them like the same stuff we do?

In the meantime, we're planning to get t-shirts printed with the slogan "I was into your favourite band before you were born" to wear whenever we go to hipster bars.

the little sh*ts keep buying Lasers too.... that's the problem, allegedly.

so what percentage of membership participate in the racing at H&SSC Graeme?

Genuine question as I was quite surprised to read it can be as low 2% at a large club famed for racing....

Turnout by racing sailors is also relevant.

I have had a quick look at the turnout for class racing in one of our club's most popular fleets in 2014 and 2015. There were 76 races in the course of each year. Roughly 75% of the boat owners raced at least once.

Of those who raced, about a third did fewer than 10 races, and another third did between 10 and 20 races, and the remainder were split between 30+ and 40+ races. I reckon that bell curve is typical of many clubs/classes.

Back in about 2002 my son (then 16) asked me if I'd ever heard of this great track he'd found - I fell about laughing since it was THE number one of 1975, an absolute classic and Queen's biggest ever hit!

Try going to a Bootleg Beatles concert, amazingly good and an audience covering all ages. Last year I also saw the Hollies, still at it after all these years. Two of the originals at least. The audience for them was even older than a local music society whose choral concerts I frequent.

We has 32 out last night, which made things pretty damn crowded. 3 or 4 Lasers in the top 10, I think, with several more out there.

We had 40-odd out last night. Ok, leaving do in London, but sailing seems to have become a passenger on this particular thread!
