Pedalo would seem a better option than anything with sails if the forecast pans out!

No access this weekend, except a pedalo... Would that be sufficient? |

In the same way that someone has designed a flawless car, bicycle, aeroplane, truck, hovercraft and ship.

Paddy Hopkirk lived in Jersey way way back and along with his own offspring used drop me off at school occasiaonally ... Aaah the good old days that were.
Anyway back on subject ... 1) Sail whatever you like 2) Enjoy it 3) Don't knock what other people like to sail too often 4) Eat more pies than GRF (and be prepared to move your sorry ass around the boat a bit more than he ever did) to make sure whatever you do sail does NOT nosedive ! 5) Get off the forum, all of them, this weekend and go sailing. This still gets my goat, this almost necessity in the dingho mentality of just having the 'one' class to the exclusion of all others, I said it on that other bitchfest yank forum, I say it here again, buy them all, sail them all, much more fun. Why tie yourself to one? Especially since the perfect dinghy is still yet to be built, they all have their weak points.
That Blaze, is a very attractive boat, especially if some dude has tricked it out, but it's heavy, it nose dives like crap in certain wave lengths, so does the Zero and the Aero is sh*t upwind... One day somebody is going to design a flawless boat, but it hasn't happened yet, not by a long chalk. Edited by iGRF - 25 Mar 16 at 11:52pm |

It will ever be thus....
Some people will sail traditional designs because they're a known quantity, with existing fleets, good resale values etc.. Other people will be early adopters. They'll see new, faster, more exciting designs, and buy into them.... Some of them will judge well, and some will buy into a class that is a Darwinian dead end... History is littered with examples.. VHS vs Betamax is a fine one... PS2 vs Xbox....... etc... Defend your choice by all means, but if you end up sailing a class of 100 boats or fewer... well that was your choice... You don't have to sl*g off the people who made the other decision and ended up in the more popular class... You are now all free to lay into me for sailing a Minisail, and building a Cape Cod Frosty.... |

I really wish I could disagree with such observations MM, it would certainly help add some pepper to th apparent argument I've entered with the alpha male of this Lion pack...

I keep saying something similar about urban SUV buyers, but what appeals to the heart has little to do with logic. That said, come to think of it, I'd also rather go faster with less effort, letting the racks take the strain out of the upwind legs. The Blaze also gets nicely in the groove upwind, something that I gather can't be said of an Aero, going by reports and my own experience of very light boats.

Don't know about that. Last year I went around the Dinghy Show with my Laser-sailing 16yr old godson, and we spent much time on the Aero/Zero stands, plus plenty of the more exotic boats. Afterwards, I asked him which boat he fancied most, expecting he'd say the 14, 505 or Zero, but he was quite positive: wanted the Blaze; the example at the show was pretty basic, but I couldn't shake that decision.
