True, but banning trolls is a smart move ... sadly I fear the damage is done ...

I haven't really raced much against D-Ones, but racing against RS100s we find a tight kite reach ruins their day.
But then as a lightish 400 team, a tight kite reach in a breeze spoils our competitiveness (such as it is!) against the '2 heavy blokes' teams.
As we race in tide, it is very common for a reach to get tightened up, even if the RO tries hard.

How true .. now if we could just agree who they were ....... er L.192444 .  A new 'moderated' thread needed ?  Perhaps even with a 'standard setting' statistical treatment of the 'returns' from around the country and clubs then as to who should be 'constrained' ... oh maybe not.  LOL

Without some light trolling the forum would be very tedious, but repeating the same thing over and over again gets both boring and in some cases, insulting.

Rudeness just gets boring. "Empty vessels make the most noise" and "Methinks he doth protest too much".

Re 400s: At our club we have some of the best 200 helms in the country and some nationally competitive Merlins. We generally compete against the 2s and the handicap seems fair. We do well when the top helms are away and have our hands more than full when they return. On the odd occasion we've raced against the Merlins, well we've certainly given them a run for their money around the cans when there isn't a significant run in the course. When I've raced against the same people in the same boat, we've been close but they generally beat us. So, certainly with 2s and Merlins, we don't have a particular issue with their PY (although charitable PY donations each year wouldn't be unwelcome!)

Think yourselves all very lucky, racing my phantom here in Canada using US numbers that haven't changed in the 5 years I have been here. To be fair most of the boats I race against haven't changed in 30 years. Racing against Y-Flyers, snipes, sunfish, CL 14/16, wayfarers and lasers. My last club before I moved to Canada used personal handicaps based on PY, worked well adjusted every race based on performance. Best boats still won but had to work harder.

Calum, seems like you've had a positive experience of an adjusted system, i wonder how many clubs have tried dual scoring their racing to find out what actually happens to the results (not corrected times) over a season based on locally adjusted numbers (not personal handicaps - where possible).

from my experience results don't change that much to be upsetting to anyone, but the corrected times get closer making the racing more competitive, its just practice racing after all and who doesn't want to be pushed and improve their performance?

good points, I hadn't thought about 200's, lovely boats to sail IMO and, if I can get a crew, one I love in F5+, I'm a bit heavy and get bored in lighter stuff anyhow, in the majority of cases I've not seen a well-sailed Merlin bested by a 400 or 200 in handicap racing but I have seen both finish ahead in big breeze, i.e. F5-F7
