It depends where you sail inland. I wouldn't worry about the 600 not having a class association if you are racing at club level.
They are truly rewarding boats and a great test of boathandling. Once mastered everything else will feel easy. I would only go for a 700 or MPS if you are at one of the bigger lakes. Running costs on a 700 or MPS are higher due to the extra rope and kite. If you are on a good size pond then either will give you a great experience. Both have pros and cons and arguably the MPS is slightly more refined but costs a lot more. |

For £3000 you'd get the best RS600 going
Don't discount the 600 - at your size and weight, inland, it would be great Its the only boat I had that actually made me want just to go sailing regardless of whether there was racing or not Sure its tricky but it can be awesome too |

Buying the boat is just the start of the costs ... Think about running costs and residuals; are you buying into an active and busy class or one that is in decline? Whilst you, of course, have to be able to find the money to buy the boat be mindful of how much you will get when the time comes to sell it. If a certain class has strong residuals then people want them and you will be able to sell your boat well. If boats can be had dirt cheap that usually means that the class is dead and no-one wants them and you may well find you lose money trying to unload your dodo ... ... also get an insurance quote from the Noble website before you buy ...

To be honest for that money your unlikely to find an MPS, they do hold their value pretty well though, so if you were able to stretch yourself financially then you probably wont loose much.
If you went for a Contender first then it seems there are boats with carbon rigs available for that sort of money. |

Budget wise, maybe up to £3000 or so, depending on when I get it and what funds are like (hoping to get some work in the summer...)! Have done a bit on Assy spinnakers as well as trapezing, just not together! Did wonder about adding kite later, plainly not possible but I suppose that just = more swimming! Sounds like the options are contender or MPS then?! Only thing I suppose is that MPS will be a lot more expensive?!
(PS don't want to Further complicate but would not be interested in wooden boats (contender wise) and wouldn't want to do too much work as am v busy, just want something to go sailing/swimming in!) There's a couple of lakes near me, not sure if they have any of the classes, might be one or two but need to find them! |

+1 on needing to use the assy from the off.

Ignore which one until you decide where you'll sail. I'm obviously a little biased owning an MPS so won't comment on the boat, but the "best" boat is the one that you can sail with others at your home club. Both boats will be a challenge and hugely fun to learn, but you'll progress up that learning curve so so much faster if you can sail with others as they will help you over than hump.

Adding the kite later on a 700 would be a bad move. It is quite hard to get downwind with just the main up. Gybing it with the kite is easier than without. If you go down the assy route then you should expect to need to use them from the first time you go sailing.
My money would be on a cheap contender for a first go at single handed trapezing, I know, because I chose the RS700 and whilst I didn't struggle too much, I am also a little bit more experienced than you are by the sounds of things.

from experience i would agree that the mps is better first time than the 700 to get along with.
