D-Zero? On that lake?
It would be punished, no matter who sailed it, with that handicap the lake is the home to Pancho Villa's army and all their girlfriends who sail Miracles. |

Perhaps we should find a local D-Zero bod for 'the lake' and see how they get on....

Funny that's what all the Laser Sailors are saying even though in reality it's not quite as quick allround as a Laser, but it is a very agreeable boat to sail and if it had a carbon rig without stays it would be a standout craft, almost in D-Zero territory. Edited by iGRF - 18 Nov 15 at 10:12am |

![]() ![]() ![]() Personally I loved sailing my N12 on my own, no dangly pole back then, just some jib cleats, it really wasn't too much effort and was an amazing boat to sail in a F2-3 upwind singlehanded. I can see why some newer designs have incorporated jibs for single handers, if you go down the stayed rig route. I would buy another 12 with this in mind, and frankly for a grand, it's a lot of boat for the money as long as you find one without too many maintenance issues.

In my humble opinion (more as an observer these days), Mr GRF has, after years of buggering about with difficult to sail....not difficult.... but challenging at least, he has found a vessel which is simple to sail and in which he can display his considerable talents without the compromise of complication. Any 'ordinary' boat would do.

Power adjustability? What power? It's a marginal rig, 6 howmany sq mtr? and sticky out roach full batten disaster cut.
Granted if it had a half decent rig the boat bit is ok, if you don't mind running aground with a daggerboard and splitting the case now and again. Solution runs rings round a Supernova, out tacks it, out reaches it, will beat it upwind. I believe facts I find, then I've sailed both boats and seriously considered the one over the other, true the Solution could also do with rig carbonisation but hey then it would be perfect. It's the first singlehander that's taken me within .75pts of winning the summer series and the other local solution sailor is cleaning up the lake there is nothing else like it. |

Too short for its width and too heavy for its length with only a fraction of the power adjustability of the Supernova oh and quite slow for a supposedly modern design, but believe what you want..... |

If you wanted a frankenboat little 12 footer it would probably be better to start with a Farr 3.7. If you don't want a wire give her little fold out winglets like some German and Swedish Canoes have for a bit more righting moment and away you go...
