Zim the manufacturer have recently tied up a distribution deal with RS in the US and already have the same with Hartleys. Would be nice to imagine that as part of a deal they could import some in the opposite direction. Not likely tho, tho you could kind of imagine Hartleys taking a punt. Also the Zim 15 looks nice, tho maybe a bit Iconish

I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me. |

I've managed to track one down after just a couple of hours interwebbing.

They are nice to sail. Nigel Vause from cvrda has one at Thornbury which I had a go in on a reasonably wind day. I'm 6'2" and 84kg and I found it perfectly suited to my build. The mkII rig is good but it's a fairly early generation carbon spar so there are better rigs on Phantoms and OKs. The deck moulding is a great shape and very easy to hike off. Not sure if I liked having a daggerboard on a boat this big but it all works well enough. It is critical that you rig everything correctly at the mast foot otherwise some of the controls jam up as the rig rotates.

I've sailed one a couple of times including in some wind. Well mannered and put together boat that was comfortable to hike from. I don't recall the boom being as high as the pics seem to suggest - but it was some while ago. I don't actually think there is much on the market like it, so it could be worth an importers punt.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

I had one for some years and loved it. Regretted selling so can't say more than that.

I've decided that I'm not going to be quite big or strong enough for the Megabyte. I don't want a boat that always feels overpowered and a bit like water-borne wrestling.
How about an older N12 re-rigged for single-handed, one-sail sailing? Move mast forward, presumably, re-site some controls. Cheap, lightweight, modern, sit-in, one-sail singlehander? If it's feasible, are there any N12 designs that might be especially suitable for such butchery? Don't want a tippy nose-diver. |

Supernova is the best home grown alternative and power is very adjustable so weight can be catered for. Blaze can be sailed very effectively by most weights with the standard rig, or if very light get a decent hull and a new fire sail.

12 foot version of the Hadron, by the sounds of it. Why not keep the jib?
