In defence of the Tasar, of which I have no personal interest ... They are very stable as they are IMO, also if you can track down old Tasars I don't think that they are that expensive and are suitable boats for refurbing ... Especially if you can track down the Kevlar boats.
Frank may have been a one trick pony ... But it was a pretty good trick! I think the Tasar was far too ahead of the game, people were waiting for a two man Laser, but got something far too sophisticated, I think a lot of us were put off because they had a pay the same as a Fireball, which was something hard to get your head around. It is worth reflecting that Antipodean boats seem to be developed for steady winds in open waters, hence having different rigs on 18's, even had diferent rigs on their 14s in the eighties, and maybe Scow Moths, whereas the UK are very good at boats that change gears across the range, which maybe why Bethwaite boats find it difficult to gain traction in the mass UK market |

You know I think we are all fairly well catered for. I usually sail my Lightning which is a bit stodgy but fun. If I feel young and skittish I can always borrow a Byte. My Tasar is sitting there if I feel classically minded and there are club GP's, Ents, and Grads to nick. Under a grand pulls in an old penultimate I14 if I develop suicidal tendencies and Fireballs are cheap. Do we really need any more? If you are a hot shot sailor then you want to win whatever you sail...and you will.

Doesn't really have to be very wide to be stable, just well designed. But do we have a Jack Holt around these days? |

Modern means modern, there is only one 'modern' symmetric and that is the X1 (0).

The RS Quest is more modern than the the X1. Well, newer.
If dinghy sailing today is the same and as popular as it was in the 60's, the Quest should be very popular. It seems to be sized right in the middle ground, stable and performance no doubt similar to other general purpose boats. |
