The reason why ISAF is not corrupt is because sailing does not work on TV, therefor no TV money or big sponsorship money. From where I sit this is a good thing. Every attemp to make our sport better on TV compromises the sport ... Racing on the Nothe or in sewage infested waters in Rio

But was the kitesurfing thing really corruption, or simply the result of a democratic institution in action, possibly reflecting the fact that there's a legislature (Council), but the executive (Exec cttee) actually has too little power. "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…" and "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

the kite surfing fiasco was a total joke - it made ISAF look incompetent, not corrupt.
It was more an issue with communication with the delegates iirc... didn't the Spanish person get the question around the wrong way and in fact make a mistake voting pro-kiting when they meant to vote pro RS:X?

Regarding FIFI or whatever she's called. Who said, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
I doubt if the RYA is all that corrupt, perhaps the odd cheese sandwich for free but little more than that. Neither the ISAF because no one cares much about sailing even though Mc Donald's and CoCola are an important part of traveling to events these days.

I'd imagine that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to assist with those broad objectives. I know I came in off the water at my club this week only to be congratulated by someone in an RYA gilet thanking me for putting on a good show from the clubhouse windows whilst they had their meeting. (I took the credit and thanked him, but it was probably the kids doing their freestyle thing that he actually saw, not me cornering at 20 knots and falling in a lot.)
Anyway, my point is I don't know what that RYA meeting was for, nor do I really care too deeply.... but I bet it was something 'grass roots' or 'regional' related given its midlands location and the time of year. Do I think clubs should do more to encourage class racing? Yes, absolutely.... and if grant money could be used to promote it, then if it's available, I'd say go for it. One of my strongest memories of transitioning from youth sailing (Oppies, Topper - briefly, 420 and Lasers) was the move into handicap racing.... it always did suck if there weren't enough of us 'properly racing' to turn a blind eye to the corrected time results. Fortunately back then there were still enough of us in 420s and Lasers (114/115 in old money) that we take a rather skeptical view towards the corrected time winners and losers- we raced together, as mates, accepting the 420s had the edge in a F4 or above, but the Lasers were king of the Wednesday Night series. Just think of the reams of bullsh*t this forum alone has contributed to 'trying to improve' the handicap system... really, it just doesn't work. The proliferation of classes at a local club level and the general move towards PY as some sort of panacea to correct the damage that mishmash in the dinghy park does to racing, well it only goes to accelerate fractionating the sport of sailing further into an utter irrelevance. We are back to this sailing as a sport thing.
I am sure that the majority of posters on here most certainly do see it as a sport and are passionate about it's promotion as such. However I also think that the majority who participate in sailing in all it's forms see it for themselves as a pastime albeit an absorbing one and have little interest in the racing side. Contrast that with. Football, most of the supporters probably haven't even kicked a ball for years. Athletics, most of the participants compete at some level. New wave cyclists, even if they don't compete from their riding wear they clearly identify with the racing side.

Well, Zimbabwe not as corrupt as FIFA, I suppose, but pure as the driven snow?
