Not sure I'd support the contention about sailing organisation, after all they did such a great job supporting para-sailing for the olympics - not

Are you sure the ISAF isn't as corrupt as FIFA?

Well, have you still got some of that technical paper? Why not kick the ideas onto here and have a good discuss?

Tried this a while back and wrote a paper for this when on the RYA Technical committee, got kicked into touch by RYA council, apparently because it ruffled some Youth feathers.

Idea was to support well managed classes with good support at Club, Open Meeting and National level throughout RYA regions.

These would have been National Classes with less RYA involvement ... Marlins, Solos, RS200, RS400 amongst others would have been on the list.

Those wanting to get into class racing would have been able to buy into these classes with confidence that they could find good class racing within a reasonable distance.

This was ten or so years ago.

FIFA, the RFU, Athletics....all in an absolute mess.

On the one hand, sailing at the top level looks pretty sorted...but what's going on at grass roots? What is the RYA doing? All the aforementioned sports are having real issues from top to bottom. How does sailing get a step ahead and get our sport growing at grass roots (and not just youth sailing - us oldies too!)?

FWIW I think its time for the RYA to start putting some sort of structure into class racing and (and this is controversial) start proactively adopting classes/clubs as being (lets say), Premier League, Championship etc etc. A thought, don't rip in to me (please)! Our sport is amazingly diverse, but I cannot help thinking if we want to attract more participation, we need to be less "anarchic". In terms of racing.
