40 in the 7mtr class? That's interesting, I could compete in that with a half decent each way chance.. I shall have to keep an eye on that, too heavily committed over the next couple of weekends but if that class builds it could be worth watching..

So 19 odd in the bigger rig 9 class... Whats happened to all the 85kg plus sailors in the last few years in all classes.

19:40 ... that's a better heavyweight split than the comparable first RS100 nationals. That said, I think many will find the 7 is just the nicest balanced sail on that boat. Having seen it in the flesh I'd say it would be wrong to call it the Women's Rig with the 9 being the Mens one. It's as much a general purpose size as a standard Laser sail, and they're still proving popular enough.

They went on diets like our honourable Mr Kneewrecker and are now a svelte 80kg or less.... That and a sailor I respect a lot has said the 7 rig is the one to have as it is by far the best balanced.

even so, I bet you'd find that in a decent sea breeze with a bit of chop to play with, you'd find the 7m the go-to option. I'd imagine if I bought an Aero I'd still pay out of the 9m, but that would be for summer evening sailing only, or when you show up at an event and the wind is a little pants or under forecast. I think the sail options are generally being received as a good thing on so many levels - it's certainly not appearing to detract from initial numbers at the nationals is it?!?

Depends on if you count hulls or by class ![]() There has been grumblings on other fora about having to buy more than one rig for 'class events' as class rules state that in class racing you can race any rig without being penalised.

I count number of boats out there having fun Jeffers - over 70 from one new 'product' covering men, women and kids at a location worth travelling to = MASSIVE achievement and a genuine sense of FOMO.

Not true at class events. Like any class you can decide which boat or rig you use right up to registration. After that that's your entry. Race with a smaller rig the next day and you have to re enter as a new entrant so rule yourself out of the event. No different to the Laser. Many Laser sailors have a full and a radial with different bottom sections so again no different.
