OK. It's heavy, soft and has less gloss than gelcoat or paint finish.
It damages comparatively easily and will ruckle if rubbed too hard against a bearing surface. On a yacht one has to be careful where and how one places fenders. Areas that regularly have fenders against them are reinforced with an extra transparent layer of vinyl which can also ruckle. You get the picture. It is popular in the States for colour changing cars but cars do not sit on launching trollies or have fenders rubbing against them. It is popular in the yachting world for comparatively inexpensive colour change or large colour coding stickers. Also for decorating features. One could wrap a dinghy hull easily but would have to watch out for abrasion.

There's a Scorp at Bough Beech that I assume is wrapped. Metal foil lookalikey.
Looks great, and when it's tired he can get it re-done. |

Yes, that mirror-finish Scorpion at BBSC is indeed wrapped (I asked). Looks great on the water, but not so good off it imho. Presumably holding up well - it's been on since the new year. Peter W. crewed for him recently - I'll ask if he knows more.

The mirror finish scorpion only has the sides wrapped, the bottom is the original red gelcoat, presumably this is to avoid abrasion from the trolley. There was a photo of it capsized on the class facebook page as a caption competition not so long ago.

I did it on the topsides only as it is good but not as tough as gelcoat...I did my Scorpion in 93, I think it is still on the boat, the boat was at Hill Head last I had seen it.
Grapefruit do many of these and you can print all sorts rather than just plain colours now. I was warned off the silver as it degrades, but its ok if it only lasts a few years as you just peel it off and re apply...Much cheaper than a re spray. |

93 or 2003 Chris? Was your foam boat at the 2003/2004 Nats not vinyl wrapped (blue if I recall)?

Yeah Baz's Scorp 2024 is quite a site on the water. If reflect the water around it so can be difficult to spot. Apparently he had to have re done as his dog ran into the original.

Also guessing Chris meant '03. Don't think Angel Dust was wrapped. Can still see the yellow paint at the edges of the transom. Boat is still going strong, out point most and is devilishly quick upwind. Says allot to Chris' building ability. Will be at at Nationals this year.
