Extraordinary that the minuscule 5 is quicker than a radial, Solo, byte, Europe, Lightning, Steaker etc.

It occurs to me that if you lengthened the Aero by 1ft and stuck stays and a jib on you'd have a very light, very simple two man boat in the mode of the Tasar - but even faster, simpler, lighter and cheaper.

People get over excited about sail area and forget just how critical length is.

One of the reasons the Aero is so light is because its so very small (which makes perfect sense of course) so if you enlarged it to say Tasar size (beam and length and freeboard - more beam means you need more freeboard) it probably wouldn't be that much lighter than a Tasar.

However if you left it narrow it wouldn't carry weight well unless you made it very long, which is also weight. I'm sure with latest production/construction methods you could significantly improve on the Tasar weight, but maybe not very spectacularly.

Jim. The aero is not small. Toppers, comets, oppies, british moths and mirrors are small. Even a streaker/solo is smallish. Something that's with in a couple of inches in size to a laser is not small.
Sorry for being pedantic.

Actually I did some sums. If you scale it up to the size of a Tasar, it weighs the same as a Tasar.

Isn't the Aero 13 feet? So nearer the size of a Streaker than a Laser. But longer by far than the Comet/Europe.

Did you just go measure a chocolate bar, Peaky? Seems a bit long, to me.
