The traveler on a Tasar is sort of concave so the sheet, when cleated, stays the same length. You can then sail using the traveler control rope instead of the mainsheet and pull the boom to windward without increasing leach tension......and do the same thing reaching. You have to be quick to uncleat when it all goes wrong however! Byte has a traveler with two cars which can be adjusted outwards and a yoke. The yoke length can be adjusted as well. I cant explain this without pencil and paper!

So, it was quite blustery last night probably the windiest race I've ever completed in a single hander, last over the water but there were a few dnf's and only half a dozen finishers so I came off the water feeling quite happy. Out back there were sizeable waves, she poked her nose down but never under, the sheeting system is quite heavy but nothing i couldn't handle for the duration and the bonus of not having all that rear gubbins to disturb the force was a bonus that kept me upright for all but one heavy gust at the gybe mark.
It was a North Easter and sunny warm, the previous Tuesday similar conditions without the benevolent temperature saw us ducking out of windsurf racing, although truth was as we went out it was 12-24 mph which for once actually followed the forecast and did the opposite of what normally happens to evening wind and increased to 18-30. That and my diet induced 65 kg weight punching the full cut sail meant I couldn't equal the speed of a well sailed Laser, or my chum in his Phantom until much later in the race when I knocked the plate back a bit and was able to sort of sail it free-er but still up on its ear sitting further back than I normally prefer (it's widest point is back a bit). I also over cooked the 'kicker free' sailing by the lee technique at one point it looked like the distorted sail would fully gybe at the head so there has to be a measure of kicker applied, which aint easy when you're planing on a dead run waiting for the inevitable death role, which, I'm pleased to say seems absent in this boat. So a first in that I didn't just sail in and give up or in fact not go out in the first place, had I not gone in I'd have been in with the chocolates so I'm content with the result whatever it was, you can't expect anything if you crash and burn, and it took me a while to remount, it is a tad wide, it's not the plate height from the water it's the height of the gunwale from the plate that is a bit of a stretch with my shoulder which still gets a bit inhibited with the cold, so maybe I'll have to fit those awful pussy hanging down righting rope things, or maybe learn to gybe better. One or the other. The boat however gets absolutely top marks, what a shame I hadn't bought this the first day I saw it and wanted it then, i wouldn't be carrying all the post traumatic Musto/Blaze/EPS stress disorder which makes me overly nervous when it's really windy, this tool is doing wonders for my confidence.

Latest update, I'm now totally centre sheeted and convinced it's the only way, having had a go in a laser and been absolutely trashed, then stepping back into the Solution and twice now leaving the mackerel fleet in its wake, with a 1st and a 3rd now against the coastal hot shots at Hythe, the 1st in light conditions and the third in a gloopy force three, in which I couldn't quite hold them off nor hold my chum in his phantom.
But for aggressive off wind wave action grabbing the entire bunch of sheet control rope and hauling at the right moment pays more dividends than a rear sheeted haul in and running by the lee with less sheet weight in light conditions it's also a bonus, so its goodbye rear sheeting from me for ever in this boat. Good News our Jack did ok in the nationals with a 2nd, which proves the point I made a while ago about the high quality of helms that lake produces, he did really well.

13 boat Nationals......I do hope we can beat that with the Bytes on the 18th. So frustrating! Do you not fancy testing yourself against the nations best young Fuller? Solutions I mean but try a Byte if you like!

Looks like our Minisail fleet will be decimated by the strike at Calais. Even though ferries are back on, the traffic situation around the area is pretty dire and our Europeans have decided not to risk getting stuck. Shame, as last year we had more entries than the Solutions!

It's a shame about the *Nationals, but it's an historic and antediluvian method of guaging the suitability of a boat to it's rider, this boat is made for me, if I'd followed my gut instinct when i first saw it....
Listening to all the advice given by all the other fanboys, 'it's a crap boat' 'can't beat a laser' (two minutes over the nearest laser on sunday)'you'll get screwed on handicap' they're calling me a bandit already after two races at hythe. It does need a carbon rig, but I can live with it as it is, I've found a workaround to the bloody shrouds issue thanks to that adjustable forestay, but it would be nice to have it as unstayed then it would really rock. I'm back racing my windsurfing chum and it's a tough call trying to beat him in his phantom but we're 3-2 in his favour over the water but I generally get him on handicap which is a secondary and not entirely fulfilling victory however it is the first time ever I've started paying attention to the results. It's not as much fun as two up, but until Trev gets his back dialled I'm stuck with it, the very best bit? It tacks on a dime, I've had to learn a complete new system without using my teeth and I end up sailing fakie with arm and legs back to front, even managed to pump down an entire leg like it. (one sheet per wave, they're now whining about that, never noticed them whining when i did it in an unfavorably handicapped boat, Contenders.. they don't like it up em. ![]() *I think historically it's a bit of a Northern biased class which has never really jumped the divide south below the ice wall, that's probably why there were not as many, and Felpham ffs have you ever sailed there? Trot line dodging, Butlins for entertainment and it's always stupid windy.... why would you?

I did look at it tick, but tbh I'm finding this 8.5 sail a tad gutless and I'm so over travelling, we're also locked down here for the forseeable future, there are currently 6000 trucks all the local coastguards are out trying to keep them alive including young alex who works here, not to mention having to look after the hundreds of illegals who have now taken to walking through the tunnel helped by the french Tunnel workers who are grateful for their assistance with the burning tyres. So I could leave but I'd never get back. It took me nearly an hour to do the ten minute drive back from the lake on wednesday, it's a complete f**king nightmare..
