Yep- I've had a PM, a re-write in progress too.  Sounds very promising and more comprehensive than the fag-packet ideas I've been discussing here.

I assume we will give it a once-over for consideration at some point?

I believe you have no problem with the Blaze py.
Do me a favour and stop sl*gging of the volunteers who run the PY group whilst they dont get it right all the time they are working with the info clubs send in and that is done by mostly volunteers as well all trying to give us the best racing they can.

Thumbs Up

It would also make the forum more appealing to visitors IMO

If it's the Starcross system then yes. I had a copy of it years ago and used it to score one of the Dash's and it worked very well.
If you mean are DWSC giving it a once over then yes, I hope they will. Previous committees have also seen it but nothing ever got off the ground and then we moved to running all racing from the committee boat, not the OD box which kind of scuppered it slightly. But if it can be re-written to use portable tablets then it would make sense to look again at using it. It would certainly make my life easier than trying to decipher every OD's different system for recording times and laps every week!

its not that i disagree with your point that im calling you out for trolling woodburner, its the constant drivel that spews in an attempt to insult and in a perverted way try and engage people.  perhaps discussing it like a adult and being more proactive on this subject you'll find people listen more readily.

you have many good points in discussions you just seem to be lost in the forest on this one, try burning some wood and make a clearing.

You simply get members to sign on electronically, using drop downs for data cleansed boat declaration,  then enter the ETs as the race finishes directly at the finish line.  Adding commands like Start Race, Record Lap (splits), Finish competitor, Finish Race etc you could have the timing automated and results available before the competitors are even ashore.  Crucially, they are uploaded to the central repository immediately if enabled with a SIM card, or at least in a very short while when back within range of wifi network.

Hell - add some social media plug-ins and you might even find I 'like', 'heart' or 'gold star' a particularly good race in the euphoria that follows any decent sail - irrespective of the handicap system.

I think if the operation were simpler, you'd actually see that bones of the system aren't flawed, and has actual improved over the years.  Neither is there the vested interest or group collusion by the PYAG you fear so greatly - this system would be far more transparent and with certain fields removed for data protection, the results could be shared universally.

totally agree TT.

One of the ideas I had for this app would be that could re-order the boats by simply dragging and dropping.... much like re-ordering a playlist on an mp3 app.

This would enable you sort the race order, more or less, ahead of the finish.  It would have no bearing on the results or data collection - it would simply be a useful app feature to keep the list view organised in a pragmatic manner.

perhaps if it naturally reordered into lowest py to the top so the most obvious on the water finish order is likely to be correct with the drag and drop to re list if and when required.

that would be a sweet option for sure... it could even re-order in, sssshhh, personal handicaps  LOL

And Yes Chris, you re right, the Starcross one.  I'd be interested in discussion off the forum if this is something you would like to implement at Draycote, especially if v2 can accommodate mobile devices.

And there you have the rub, the D Zero is now regarded as wrong because it's compared to another wrongly handicapped yet high chatterati factor boat and so the circle continues, round and round it will go unless you have one fixed marker. All this carried out on flat water.

The D-Zero PY was always going to be a little suspect this year as it was worked out from limited data. I know from analysis of the Hunts results we averaged a PY of 1090 (some very light wind days combined with weed).

This year I suspect our average will be somewhat lower because the wind has been better, the people in the boat know how to get more out of it and the weed has not appeared yet....

Are you up tonight? Happy to discuss anytime. Have you seen Marks system demo on their club website? It re-orders boats by PY in to the order it thinks they should appear on the next lap too! Obviously it can't account for capsizes or retirmenets but they were generally in close to the correct order which meant you didn't have to scroll up or down the list too much which helped immensely with a large fleet.

Sorry chaps it aint going to happen, I've tried the be reasoned approach and you get nothing, no news at the dinghy show and this place became deserted, even by the tumbleweed. Funny how it's livened up now though and some discussion finally takes place, and as for doing favours for anonymous dinghy sailors? Yeah I'm all over that - not.
