I tried to rename my classes that were wrong (in the same way as the old website) and now i have numerous classes all identical, is there a way to reset this back so i can do what has been suggested by Chris/Alex?

Also when i hit the upload button in sailwave it says its all working fine but nothing appears on pyonline, anyone else seeing similar issues?

Fish n ships... You will need to upgrade to a new version of sailwave to upload to the new site as the old versions send to the old PYS site. Only problem is it hasn't been released by sailwave yet. Hopefully it will be available soon.

There is a red cross at the right hand side of each line in the manage classes page which deletes the entire line. However, i'd suggest that if you are unsure which ones you have added that you just point them all to the one type as Alex has shown on his screenshot on the previous page. I don't think it matters how many lines you have on the manage classes page and if you delete the wrong one you could delete data. That won't be a problem when you can re-upload any races but for the time being i'd leave in.

Thanks Chris and Alex that's fixed it. I'd failed to spot the gap between RS and 400 in one of the versions - Duh!

Chris,

I dont doubt that some of the functionality is significantly better than before, but for me that manage classes page is not clear.
I currently have three of every class with exactly the same names and configurations and the issue with RS classes which I have now just re-named by double clicking the name and renaming.

In order to try and speed up the system which is woefully slow! I have also now deleted all our cruisers from the system which took me bloody hours as each time you press the red cross to delete, it then has to refresh the page which takes about 40seconds. As you can probably appreciate when you have lots of cruisers with different configs and everything is on the list 3 times, and it takes 40-60secs to delete each one, I was working on this from 19:30 until 00:00 last night!

Now when I click on the PY report, all of the stuff I deleted or renamed is still on the list, so clearly the links in the database are either not working correctly or the refresh rate on the database is just ridiculously slow.

Now I am no IT expert but having seen similar speed related issues on work databases it looks to me like the remote server is not upto the job or has a slow connection rate to proxy url. Either way it needs to be sorted as clubs volunteer results officers or sailing secs. are not going to persist with poor performance on a tool that they find difficult to use. So if the aim of the RYA is to get more returns from more clubs they need to sort the intuition of the software and the speeds or face more of the same abuse regarding the PY system.

A couple of times I've considered taking on the role of returns person at the club, but as someone who struggles with an excel spreadsheet once I get beyond simply filling in boxes, threads like this put me off totally. For me, and I suspect many others, just filling in a spreadsheet and clicking send is what we would consider straight forward. As soon as there are complications, the will to get returns back to the RYA withers.

Craiggo,

Sorry to hear your frustrations. The site isn't slow for me in general, but does take a few seconds to run reports if all classes are selected, and a few seconds to delete a line but nowhere near 40-60 seconds.

Up to you of course but if you want to PM me your club id and password I could take a look and see if I can help with your issues and whether its that slow for me.

So you'd dismiss it before even looking into it? That's a shame. Does you club currently make returns?

If your club is already using sailwave there isn't really much to do other than filling in boxes. Once you've uploaded (a few clicks in sailwave) you can do as little as you like (bar a bit of housekeeping for class names) which is sufficient for your clubs yearly return and gives you an overall indication as to the numbers suggested for your clubs water. Or you can get into it in more depth and look at confidence factors, run reports for specific classes or time periods, or series, and link your data to other similar clubs on similar waters if you think you don't have enough data or think the national numbers aren't working for your water type.

I don't think we've bothered at Hythe after all those promises of exciting changes they came round and bullsh*tted us with then Nada.

So we'll carry on as normal ignore it and hope it goes away.

it seems to run ok on my PC, not lightening fast but responds reasonably quickly for everything but the loading of the PY Summary page.  I appreciate that its all teething problems and that hopefully in the near future we'll all be back to normal with uploads etc.

As a user it would be nice for someone to knock up a basic idiots guide to using the site and maybe a timeline for when you expect the various features to be fully live - eg estimated sailwave release dates, any estimated downtime, etc.  Also currently the help page is blank, a simple list of known faults (eg Sailwave uploads not working) would just save frustrations all around.

I'm looking forward to using the club share feature and I don't want to put a downer on what must be a massive task with (i'm guessing) very minimal funding.  Hopefully an outside point of view with some quick and easy fixes might just help everyone out on both sides of the site.
