Pro-Grip...argh!!

   Hi all,It's that old chestnut - removing old pro-grip and reapplying new stuff. I'm trying to apply some new grip to the racks on my 600. I've managed to peel pretty much all the old grip off, after about 5 hours of tedium. However, there's still a layer of glue left on the racks which I can't budge. I've tried petrol, an alcohol solution, and hot soapy water with little effect. Any other ideas to get the stuff off? Next question: I'm going for the non-self adhesive type of pro-grip. I know I need to use EvoStik as my adhesive. There seem to be LOADS of different types of EvoStik. Which one am I looking for? Cheers, Peter.

	The best kit I've found is Alpha thixofix, all the Evos have pros and cons, but alpha is the easiest to work with. Don't forget the cling film! As for getting of the only thing I've found to make a dent is white spirit and a wallpaper scraper.

	It's a right bugger ain't it. soak some rag in white spirit and lay it on the offending glue, leave for half an hour or so. It should become soft enough to remove with rag. It's a right gungy job though

	you want a toluene based solvent. Alpha do of them too :)

	Thanks guys. Isn't there some way that boats can be built permanently grippy? I don't know...velcro on the racks or something?

	Try cellulose thinners, from a car spares place, its what I use to remove the glue when changing slot gaskets. Another messy horrible job.

	I have something my missus found in Wilkos. It's called "sticky stuff remover" and works a treat on pro-grip glue. We re-gripped the gunnalls of the Javelin in 20 minutes before racing one day. On the other hand round section racks may have required a stronger glue than that found on the back of pre-glued progrip. People used to wind things with rope or put on a layer of gelcoat mixed with ground glass (or salt), and you can get nice paint on stuff too (http://www.anti-slip-paint.co.uk/protectakote-litre-p-245.html) which I use on the floor and gunnalls of my 3000. But progrip works better and lasts longer.
