We have a chandler down on the sea front, great for all the small stuff like shackles and string.

Used Sailboats for sails and always found them to be good. I generally ring the order through. Don't think I've ever ordered through the website.

Service from sailboats is ok, but the web site is one of the worst I have ever used.
Always use P&B or Trident these days.

I used to use them but after what they did with speeds, they'll never get a single penny from me.

My experience has always been good and I find that they seem to carry more stock than the rest, comms has always been excellent and good tech support. I’ve been using them for more years than I care to mention. Most of my mates at my club (Hayling) seem to use them happily enough.

My overall experience is of being generally slow and poor stock but cheaper than (the much more reliable) P&B.

Apart from the background, which I agree isnt good, I've always found them to have better stock than elsewhere, so sometimes have ended up using them as the only option. Seals for an obscure 5" hatch was a recent one. Don't like the main order bit, though. Needed bungs too so got them from there too because of it, but would rather have shopped elsewhere for them.

Yep - and you missed the big one. allegedly when they bought Speed Sails they binned off some machinists without paying them their wages - these were hard working people, the backbone of what made Richard Esthaugh's loft one of the best of its era.

I have no problem with businesses consolidating, or that 'things move on', especially given the sad circumstances. But you treat the staff right in the process- anything less is beyond a level of acceptability and fortunately thanks to the Internet and good old fashioned changing room gossip, these things can come back to haunt the ar**holes who treat their people with such contempt.
