My response, which seems to have descended into this, was based on this:

This followed three consecutive bumps that had zero response from anyone else:

22nd Dec, then 06th April and then 10th April.

- a brief reminder of what my actual response was:

given that the last three posts are nothing but blatant commercial plugs, i'd say that 'words, not action' is very much at the heart of this class....  #buysomeadvertising

given the use of a defunct hashtag, I think most here would see it to be posted with irony, and a subtly dig at the tone of the latest 'bump' and the ongoing air of superiority about those 'keyboard warriors' he so readily wanted to market to.  The initial responses, which included Mike himself, were also jovial and well spirited until he turned to silly personal accusations and spat his dummy out.  I'd imagine more because he got called out as a cheat by one poster - not me or Russ, that's largely been ignored by the rest of you.

Oh well, guess we can all go on ignoring the Blaze variations and whatever they churn up results / PY wise when they get inevitably get bumped again.... that is pretty much what happens in the real world from what I can see, so we might as well adopt the same outlook here.  As for the Icon... well, at least Rondar do advertise, admittedly the new boat won't have the same name, sails, hull or rig apparently, so it will get a badly needed fresh start from the legacy its incumbents have left it with.

I'd hate to say it but if you have a free forum where freedom of speech is supposed to be practiced, then anyone also has the right to "advertise" unless of course the terms of registration specifically prohibit it. Now as someone who only ever registered once and never bothered to read them anyway, I am not in position to say if that is the case, perhaps one of the regular name changers could enlighten us.

Yes it may be a little cheeky of mike but he is allowed and therefore it is irrelevant what the rest of us feel about it. If you have a problem about it contact Mark, have a private discussion with him about it, but keep it off of here where if often appears to get personal, where a few seem to dictate what should and should not appear on the forum by weight of their posts.

I agree that we don't want carte Blanche advertising within the forum if at all possible but that is a decision for Mark and Mags.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

I guess it doesn't matter to me Rupert, pretty sure Mark doesn't have a problem with it.  But the question is would he if his other advertisers decided to withdraw their banners and advertising spend and just use the forum?  In fact would anyone have problem?  Probably not.  Up until this resource couldn't fund itself any longer and disappeared.  Mikes posts around rig developments have been great.  Sure i may disagree with what he has developed but the market will talk and buy what they think fits them.  But starting your own thread and bumping it when you earn money selling the item thread subject, is in my opinion a little cheeky.  Especially when you do not pay to advertise here.  Not at risk of not listening to others opinions I wont say any more on the subject.  Mike WILL be back...in fact he already has been logged in today.

Nothing wrong with calling it as you see it, but sometimes a point can be laboured to a position where it feels like the opinions of others aren't being listened to at all. If you aren't the forum police, what does it matter to you (beyond maybe 1 post commenting) whether a company pays for advertizing? Mark must keep an eye on the forum, and surely would contact anyone he feels is abusing the system.

Now, on the positive side of things here, many people who rarely post have found a voice. Please post more, so the views of the few (me included) are watered down by the views of the many.

Its hardly hounded though is it?  There has been no name calling, no abuse, in fact the only person being abusive is Mike posting the tolling thing.  Is it not fair to ask a business (because in the context in which it was written is commercial) to 'buy and ad' if they are using this forum to sell their goods?  He could quite rightly ignored it, however chose to sulk.  He will definitely be back, no doubt making patronising comments about the forum folk such as 'less typing more sailing - at 2:45 on a Tuesday when most of us are working.

Like I said before, i have absolutely no problem with Mike whatsoever.  I don't know the guy.  Just like you I am entitled to air my view and have an opinion and I think its wrong, that someone can commercially use this forum for free, not support the website that hosts it (remember it costs money and the dinghy world is hardly a healthy one from a commercial perspective) but also not expect some criticism off the back of it.  Perhaps he should use his new Internet dictionary and read up on how a forum works.

Its important to remember, that James and I are normal people with jobs and are in fat pretty pony sailors.  We don't represent anybody or any particular demographic.  We have no admin rights and are certainly not self proclaimed forum police.  But we call it as we see it and as long as we do that within the law and the rule set of this forum then where is the problem?

Perception is a wonderful thing isn't it?  Mike has not been 'hounded out', he's received responses based on his bumped posts on threads he's started.

Fortunately Y&Y has a very nifty tool to see where a member's interests lie, and where they are making active contributions, therefore the perceptions can at least be countered with very real fact.

If Mike has decided to no longer continue to post in these threads, then that's a little sad, but fairly understandable given there aren't many Blaze sailors posting here, nor many here you could accurately describe as 'prospects' for one either.

Blaming folks because you don't like some of their contributions is a bit pointless- it's a forum, it has mixed opinions - that's the very foundation of it.  If we all agreed on everything, then really, what's there to write about?

The solution is to post more, not less.  Add new topics of interest if you don't like the ones on PY.

Give more into it and share your experiences....  when was the last time someone came on here to big up a watch, or complain about a set of hikers that fell apart?  Then ask yourself why would any of us do that here?  Except of course out of habit.  We have Facebook for that, or Twitter.  And that assumes any of us can arsed with it at all anyway.  What is it, 15 years on from when discussion boards and social media began to feature in our lives?  Longer for some I know....

I am really diisapointed that Mike has been hounded out which is how it appears to us mere moderates. Surely the people controlling the site and have the commercial interest should be the ones highlighting commercialism if they feel it is an issue.
I only lurk as I find posting a real challenge knowing that two or three individuals can make it very uncomfortable and not an enjoyable experience.
I commend two of the posters for their set up on facebook but really feel this attitude on this forum has now ruined it(having monitored for several years).
Real shame.
